    Rear Wheel Studs

    Does anyone know where I can pick up 8 rear wheel studs for a Opel GT? I have made a couple of .300" thick wheel spacers for the rear wheels for wheel clearance purposes and when I put them on, I only have around 3 to 4 turns of the lug nut when tightened. Not enough for safety.

    Roy;
    I have been told that Toyota truck studs (most any 70-79 model) are substitues for Opels ones, and they're longer too.

    Parts stores almost always have Chevette ones on hand, which are a direct replacement.

    You have several options when replacing studs:

    1) Honda aftermarket parts make a 50mm stud which is a direct replacement and even uses the same lug nut. I know because I have 16 of them on my car.
    2) There are special lug nuts which are called "tuner lugs" which have a threaded tunnel that goes inside the stud opening on the wheel. They are made specially for applications where most of the stud has been used for other things and there is not enough threads to attach the wheel properly. These are available at any local hipo shop that tends to Jap cars.
    3) Buy 10mm spacers with a dual 4x100 pattern, one to tie them to the hub and the other to tie them to the wheels. This would be the safest way to space out your wheels without stressing other components.

    Changing wheel studs on the rear axle is not a walk in the park. Don't even think about using the hamer method to get them out since you will damage part of your axle in the process.
