Still running points?
Last Saturday I had intentions to get out my 73 GT.
This is what I did:
Step 1-remove good battery from the 75 Sportwagon
Step 2- install good battery in 73 GT
Step 3- receive phone call and a 30+ minute distraction
Step 4- return to the GT and become horrified by the fact that the key was left in the on position
Step5- attempt to start ....nothing
Step 6- inspect battery cables
Step 7- attempt to start....cranks twice
Step 8- prime fuel pump and attempt to start ...nothing
Step 9- return battery to 75 Sportwagon which faithfully started on the firs attempt
Step 10- post this question on www.opelgt.com
Did I fry the GT ignition?
Is there a conclusive way to verify?

I'd try swapping ignition parts over from the ascona just to test. Then you'll know. I don't know if the "key left on" situation would be detrimental to the pertronix unit or not, but I have heard of people frying points when leaving the switch on.
Hey, this is a reason why it's good to have multiple Opels!

Follow the suggestions mentioned in the previous posts.

Paul, If you have not figured it out by now, your answer is time to purchase a new pertronix set. I had a first hand experience with that... welcome to the club. Keep a extra set.![]()

You might of just fryed the Ignition Coil, check to see if coil ohm's out first.
or if the resistor wire or ballest is burnt, and voltage at pos side of coil.
I always have an extra set of pertronx in the car, and an extra clutch cable clip for thoses emergency too. Hope that some helps and good luck.

Pertronix are very sensitive to continued application of voltage. I burned 3 till I figured out they dont like to be hooked up when charging the battery or hangin with the guys with the stereo blasting.
