Datsun engine

Hey I'm totally new to Opels but i've been driving by one on the way to my mistres's house every few days now and I have been taking notice to it and have even stopped by a few times to take a look inside, and I am wondering if it would be pretty easy to put a 2.8L ET Datsun engine in?

the turbo from the 280zx series, if you know what I am talking about. It's quite a bulky engine and the 2.8 is pretty hefty.

The Datsun is a straight 6, the GT engine bay was built for a straight 4. I'm sure you could get it to fit, but not without a good deal of cutting and fabricating... and then there would be the issues of suspension and drive line modifications... Not saying it CAN'T be done...

Yes on both accounts. I built a custom carburated turbo setup for my 1.9L Opel engine which added about an extra 25 ponies to the wheels. But then my cousin with the WRX powered 56' Beetle kept prodding at me to swap in an SR20DET. I happened across a sweet deal on a full swap setup with the SR20, so last April I yanked the opel motor and have been stuffing the SR20DET in. I'm getting close and hope to have it finished soon. If your interested in seeing how the SR20 fits and what kind of work it entails then check out the "A Call for SR20 Documentation" thread on this forum. Another option if your thinking Nissan is the CA18DET. It puts out more power than the old 280ZX 2.8L and is slightly smaller and also cheaper than the SR20DET.

Yes, Tim you've been smitten by the GT's looks, sorry, there is no cure, you'll have to buy and play with it. I suggest you get it running with the Opel motor first and enjoy while you ponder and plan for a swap, if you still must fine, have at it, but enjoy it for a while as is. Tell us more about this siren (the Opel, not the mistress).

i'm not sure if it's a 1.9L but it's a opel Gt motor!
