    OpelGT.com -10th Anniversary

OpelGT.com's 10th Anniversary on the web will be on February 5th. As we approach our second decade (ouch) I want to give a little update on what is happening behind the scenes.
    1. Server Move - The move to a new host server is complete. OpelGT.com outgrew the capacity of a shared server host and needed space to continue and expand our features. After a lot of research, a host was chosen that provides a fast, secure, stable server with upgradable packages at a reasonable cost. In addition to the space issue, there were several security issues with the old host that allowed hackers to use our resources. I still see their access attempts in the error logs.
    2. Site Changes - In order to keep the look and flow of the site and because of past security problems, a couple of our old features be going away. VbPicgallery, the Blocs and the Article section will be replaced with stable programs that are closer to the core program. I am also looking at updating the "look" of the site.
    3. Upgrades - I am constantly upgrading the programs we use so we can take advantage of new features and security updates. (The Classified Ad Board program has had a least 10 upgrades in the past 6 months) The Forum program is getting close to a stable release of a major upgrade that adds a lot of new features.
    4. New Features - Many are in the pipeline. Social networking for the regional clubs, Tech Articles, Restoration Articles, New self customizable user control panel, a new Blog are a few that come to mind.

Again, thank you to all who support the site by clicking on the donation button or the ad links and those who have given "in kind" donations and thank you to all who share their knowledge here so we can keep the classic Opels running worldwide!

Well thanks to all the help on the site with fixing my cars, and recently selling my orange GT, a donation from me will be in the near near future! Thank You Gary for all the hard work, dedication to keeping this site up and running, and providing it to us free of cost! Imagine how little work we would be getting done on our cars without the help of OpelGT.com

Gary, without you and this site there wouldn't be an Opel Community. Thanks to you there's a place for Opelers the world over to get together, as well as find the answer to just about any question they have! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten back into Opels without this site to help light the way.

Wow, ten years.... where does the time go? Seems like just yesterday, we were just finding people on the yahoo groups and getting "yahooed" right out of chat. Now, we have National Meets in different parts of the country.

What a great and growing community we have now. Thanks Gary!

Yeah, I can remember those days, and then finding this site. WOW. I can tell you if it wasn't for this site, and the old Yahoo site, Willit? may not have even got started, let alone get finished. So I can either thank or blame Gary for all the fun I've had with the project over the years, by keeping this site so well run. Naw, I can't blame him for what I've done, so I'll just add my birthday wishes along with the rest of the members and keep my quarterly donations coming. For all the hard work in maintaining the site, Thank you so much, Gary.

I have said it before, I think this is an outstanding site and because of this site it has generated a community. A community of great people all interested in Opels and Opeling. This site is well constructed, well organized and best of all well administered. Thanks very much Gary for being the glue helping to hold us together.

Congratulations Gary! For this web site to thrive and expand over a whole decade required a lot of time and dedication on your part. Being able to visit here and actually watch the progress on my car being restored while Keith was hard at work was a dream come true. Now that the restoration is done, I still visit this site virtually everyday and read probably 75% of the threads. I'm hooked for sure.

    THANK YOU!

    Wow!!

    Gary,
It seems like just yesterday when we all gathered in California for the '98 Opel Picnic, and for me it was the first time to put names with faces. With out your hard work digging Opel GT.com out of the Yahoo darkages we can now know who can spell (OTTO keeps most of us straighted out)and write the worst. But with out your efforts the OPEL Community could not have prospered, and for me at least and I think most would say, that if not for this site we would not have learned as much about our Opels and received help from each Opeller when one needed a booster shot to the OPEL addiction.
Thanks, and may it grow in the next 10 years
