What was the reason for cutting a hole in the passenger side fender well? I have a 3.4L V-6 in my GT and didn't have to take anything out on that side of the car.

Martin, below is the link to the "Projects and Articles" forum where I have documented my V-6/T-5 engine/tranny swap. And yes, it is a blast to drive and I do have a 5-speed in it. I used OEM temp sensor and a VDO oil pressure sensor to use the original instruments. The speedo and tach required different inputs to get them to work and was a bit costly to do, but all the gauges work now, just like they're supposed to. Putting a small block in a GT is a bit more work than I'd care to do, although it can be done, and has been done by the Gages (saxybiker) and others. I would contat them for guidance on that swap HTH.

Well, up in your neck of the woods, there was a guy with an Allison 1710 V-12 aircraft engine in his GT. I've got a 3.4L V-6 in mine, the Gages (saxybiker) have a 5.7L V-8 in one of theirs. But before you start breaking out the cutting torches, consider the weak link in a GT is the drive shaft where it goes in to the differential. So you just can't put a whole lot of horses under the hood and expect it to last very long. Being a unibody, with no frame, any torque produced by the horses is apt to tweak the body to, eventually, making the car unusable. For getting the max horses with no body work, the best bet is to go with an original Opel CIH engine. You can tweak the 1.9L you have, or go up in size to 2.0L, 2.2L or a 2.4L. Now, here's a thing to consider, with the GT weighing in just about 2000 lbs, the weight to horsepower ratio doesn't need to be that much to really scoot down the road. I've only got 140.3 actual HP at the rear wheels and I can guarantee you it's no slouch. A well built Opel engine can produce more, but will be limited, to a point, in the usable RPM range. Best thing to do is check out the engine performance forun here in the site and gain some insight of what can be done. BTW, the GT is, as you probably found out already, a blast to drive as is. HTH.

IM PUT 2.8 BECAUSE IM BUY THE CAR WHITOUT MECANICAL on fist im want put bmw motor 4 cyl but the mecanical is too expensive but is better swap im think. For you is better take you compression ratio if is good you can put weaber carburator +15 hp. Remember that opel 1972 + have minus 15 hp(Opel GT - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) 83 hp not 102 . You can put compressor but you want make sure your motor is really good (2000$) is better way for short project. You can put nitro but is never good solution. For the body you can put 170 hp is your diferential is not posy traction. If is posy traction no more 150 hp. +10% more if automatic transmission. Is not easy swap use the original mecanical if you can ! You understant my bad english ? Check namba forum have lot s information or check this forum im put the new photo each week.

Hiro il y a beacoup d opel gt en France ?

Namba i like you muffler setup what diferential you use for add posy traction ?

YouTube - OPEL GT slalom race 2007 GT-Club Württemberg really fun video.

yes there are quite a few GTs here in France,
but it's still a rare model specially when devoid of rust!
here the GT fans are a special breed,
looks like they are ashamed to show the "popular blitz" on their mini-Vette!
most of them are quite picky about maintaining the stock "look",
thus engine swap like yours or CIH tuning the way I do is not their cup of tea!

Thanx, the muffler shop guys did a real good job cutting and splicing the pipes together. For a posi-traction, I've got a 3.44:1 NOS(New Old Stock) ZF posi I found in Germany, with the help of Gil at OGTS.
