Another method, though it would only work on the current page you are veiwing, is to click on [Edit] on your browser, then [Find on this page] and enter the word you are searching for.
FYI - I can't seem to get the search function to work within a thread. I've tested it by searching for words I know are in the thread I'm viewing and it always returns empty results.
Correction - it seems to work in some threads but not others...

Or you could hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard, then press F. On Internet Explorer this brings up a small window to search the page for certain words. On Firefox it brings up a menu on the bottom of the page to search.
