That's probably how it is. It seems to be a good formula at Charlotte because when the weather is good, over 100,000 people show up. Figuring $10 a pop, that works out to be a pretty penny!
For the people who bring their cars to show and sell, but are not in a club such as ours, the AutoFair charges them a fee for parking their car on the race track. I think they really give us a good deal.
On top of that, they charge each of the thousands of vendor's for the renting of their space. Then, I think, they take a percentage of their "take".
    Everybody makes money... Believe me....

    Rain or Shine`

Now Charles, do you really mean rain or shine-seems like the rain was the "not going excuse" last weekend for the Spring show. Some of us prefer the rain shows.
Just a note to all, it rained like an SOB last weekend, but it did not take away one bit of the fun being down there. Plus they moved us to a canopy area with lots of foot traffic, so exposure was good. Don't let the weather be your desiding factor for this show. I've been 5 times and it has rained 4 of those times, but it always clears up, or rains the day before-and it makes the rest of the time nice

I don't think they will let the car into the show field if it is on a trailer. If you can drive it in, they will allow it in any condition! Hope you can bring it!

I once brought my rolling-chassis Kadett on a trailer to Charlotte, but we were not on the infield at that show. I don't know whether it makes a difference where (at which gate) you try to drive in.

    Dieter,
They used to let cars on trailers into the show field but due to the size of the show, space has become a premium, even with the size of the speedway.
You can park a trailer outside the track and drive your car into the show or leave the trailer at the hotel.

It is getting closer to the 2008 Opel Nationals in Charlotte, NC. Only 75 days! The number of registrations are starting to pick up and the hotel reservations have been steady as well. Be sure to register 30 days before the show to be guaranteed a spot at the hotel and show field. The hotel will let the Opel reserved rooms go back into to the general public a month before the actual show in September.
I have spoken to the event organizer and he has told me we will have an infield spot for our Opels, which means great exposure to the public! So things are beginning to come together real nicely.
Opel GT Source has graciously donated some of their usual great stuff for the show to help offset the costs involved in getting this show together. We are hoping to break even. Any extra money will be donated to OpelGT.com to help keep this great site up and running! Maybe Gary will be able to buy himself a hotdog or two! Please patronize Opel GT Source for your Opel needs. They do a great job helping us with parts and guidance with our Opels! About the only thing left to do is to reserve the restaurants for Friday and Saturday evenings after the show.
Keith Lundholm has also made a "financial" contribution to the show which is very much appreciated. It will be used appropriately to help buy extra trophies, T-shirts, etc. Thank you Keith!

Here is the information you may need for the show:

Update: If you plan to arrive at the hotel on Thursday, you will need to let the desk clerk know that you are with the Opel Motorsports Club that is registered for Friday and Saturday nights. They will not be able to find "Opel Motorsports Club" for Thursday night.

We should be coming through Charleston between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Friday. We will be towing so will be traveling a bit slower through the mountains.

Roy, I know I've told you I'll be coming down, but I'll make it official. I hope to be driving the Kadett wagon if I can get time to work on it between all these Opel meets. If not, the GT will make the trip one more time.

Vickie, I'm sure we can find a place to meet up since I'll be driving straight down I-79 into West VA Friday morning.

Baz... I PM'd you to let you know what you can do. But to let everyone else know, the Opel Motorsports Club has reservations at the reduced rate of $99 per night on Friday and Saturday. But, if you are coming early, they will not be able to "see" the group on their computer for Thursday. You have to tell them to look at Friday night to "see" the group. They should give you the reduced rate then. I know a few people have done this and it worked fine.
Of course, if anyone has problems, please let me know!

    Hotel Rooms

I just want to make sure everyone knows that the hotel will only hold our room reservations for the Opel Motorsports Club until August 4th. After that date, they will release any rooms not reserved by our club back to the general public. So if you plan to come, please go ahead and reserve your hotel room before that date to be assured of a hotel room for the Nationals. Believe me, they will be snatched up real quick from the general public due to the demand for hotel rooms during the AutoFair. The hotel telephone number is 704-548-0905 to get your reservations. Be sure to tell the desk clerk that you are with the Opel Motorsports Club to receive a discounted rate of $99 per night. If you have any problems, call me at 704-782-1866 or 704-661-3666. You may also e-mail me, too.
We have a few spots left if you want to register your car for the Nationals. You register with me so just contact me through this site or at CarolinaOpelClub@aol.com. I will take care of it for you!
    Hope you see you there!

If you are needing a hotel room for the 2008 Opel Nationals in Charlotte, you must register at the motel before August 4th! The hotel will release our reserved rooms to the general public after that date and getting a room there will be a crap shoot at best.
    Looking forward to seeing everyone!

    Craig,
You are more than welcome to leave the Targa at my house while you are on your trip to Florida. I only live about 7 or 8 miles from the speedway where the Nationals are going to be held! Just let me know... Glad you will be able to make it.
