    My 1st, 1st Place trophy!

I enter a lot of local fund raising car shows here in central PA (keeps me ready for Carlisle Import Show).
Well, this past Saturday the Hershey Employees held their 2nd annual car show that supports the children's miracle network.
It was a windy day, but the show was held in the Hershey Chocolate plants main lot and the plant blocked most of the wind (and it smelled pretty good all day too).
This event was a little different in that it was basically a peoples choice with no real judging. People would buy raffle tickets and they would vote on their favorite car by putting one half of the ticket in a numbered container that was in front of the cars and the other half they retained for a door prize drawing at the end of the event.
They had the divisions broken down by decades, so my '71 GT was in the 1971 - 1980 decade.
There were 12 cars in my division and being that there were some really nice classics there I didn't even think of the possibility of winning anything and just enjoyed the day chatting with other car owners and with a lot of curious people who either never even heard of "OPEL" or were tickled pink to see one after all these years.
Anyways, my wife and I took our raffle tickets up to the awards presentation to at least hopefully win some of the nice door prizes.
When my division's awards were announced I listened to the announcer as he called out the 3rd place trophy winner (a really nice '73 Camaro), the the 2nd place winner (a '72 Barracuda) and the 1st Place goes to.....a 1971 Opel GT
It took me a while to let it sink in and my wife had to nudge me out of my stupor
Being the only foreign car up against a bevy of MOPAR, CHEVY and FORDS, I was very happy that I could even place in the top ten!
    Be proud opelers!
and can't wait to see a lot of you this weekend in Carlisle
    Roger

Congratulations! I checked out your photos and really like your car. That is pretty cool how you have hidden the belly pan area with a panel with cut-outs for the hood hinges - very creative!

I was suprised that they didn't have one of those for one of the door prizes
They did have an assortment of regular sized Hershey's candy in the goody bags though....and no, none of those are left....ah....my wife ate them
