correct engine

i need to know what engine was originally in the 1966 opel rekord
was it pushrod or O.H.C ?
mine is a O.H.C 8 VALVE and 1 of the cam lobes is worn as is the follower.
also i am in need of a wiring diagram is there a link i can access.

No Opel Rekords sold in US after 1962, but engines offered in later Rekords, the "C" model, were CIH (Cam-In-Head) engines of various displacements, not really true OHC engines though . . . cam is in head, but used lifters and rockers much like a Chevy V-8s . . . THIS should answer all questions about US Opel engines, the Rekord's being similar to all the '68 and later 1.9 engines listed!

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the FIRST year of the CIH 1968? If so, then a 1966 Rekord would have one of the old pushrod engines, unless a OHC or CIH engine was installed later

OK, you are! . . . Keith, all kidding aside, the CIH engines were available in the Rekord "C" and Commodore "A" from 1966-1971 in both 4- and 6-cylinder versions of various displacements, but were not offered in US Kadetts until the 1968 "B" versions with the larger tranny tunnels to accommodate them, as you stated.

The Rekord PII models continued to use the same 1.7 OHV engines in Europe from 1963-1965 after they were no longer sold here, BTW . . .

My '67 Admiral is also a CIH car, though the 2.8L I-6 version. The Admiral A line started with the pushrod motor in '64 and the CIH became an option you could order in late '65 or early '66.

For an Opel driver at the time, '66 must have been a huge changeover year, akin to '95 or so here in the US with the Mopar group. Every model changed both body and powerplant, and several new models that pushed the boundaries of size and style were all introduced at the same time.
