    Difference in aternators

    Does anyone know the difference between a 45A and a 55A Bosch alternator, and yes I know 10A is one difference

    Alternator stator winding ratio . . .

    . . . most likely exactly alike except for higher stator winding ratio - to develop those AMPs!

    Long ago trick to "upgrade" the most common 55A GM IR alternators was to by a "Hi-Amp" kit - new stator, new internal regulator, new diode trio - from JCW, if memory serves . . . cheap way to get more amps!

    13050 Alternator

    Years ago I purchased P/N 13050 50A alternator from Online Auto Parts and Auto Accessories Store at PartsAmerica.com.

    13050 is slightly different than 13009 35A Bosch alternator at the connector to the voltage regulator and brushes holder. I don't have a picture with me and not shown on Online Auto Parts and Auto Accessories Store at PartsAmerica.com site. Alternator is still available.

    I think I know the difference, after taking all of the alternators apart, I noticed that the 55A one had a bigger ball bearing, at the pulley side, then the 45A alternator, the rear bearing is the same on both.

    pulley bearing #
    for 55A alternator -> 6303-ZZ
    for 45A alternator -> 6203-ZZ

    Rear bearing # for 45A & 55A alternator -> 6201-ZZ

    6201 = both sides open
    6201-Z = one side open
    6201-ZZ or 2Z = both sides closed

    So I'm going to make two 55A alternators from the parts I have, already called the autoparts shop, if they have the bearings in stock and they do [the small one costs about € 3.50].
    the only thing else is to solder the stator on to the diode bridge, and I'll have one to use & one for spare

    Got one alternator working, the second is put together but I don't know if it works, haven't tried it out yet, also changed the voltage stabiliser from the external unit to the one scroowed to the altenator, the only thing I had to do was change the Ø 6mm connector to a 9.5 x 1.2 mm spade [??] connector and shorten the wire that comes from the voltage stabiliser and goes to the battery charging indicator light, and put a 6.3 x 0.8 mm spade connector on the wire and connect to the altenator, now I have a few wires and conectors lesser.
    The the altenator now gives 14.1 volt, the only thing that is wrong, is that the battery charging indicator light, some times comes on, very dim, at idle, can this be caused by the pully?? I had the choise of two sizes, and I installed the bigger one, because this one is in one piece while the smaller one is in two halves
