    Bosch vs. Delco Starter

I purchased new Bosch starter on eBay for my GT. It is not cranking as eagerly as Delco starter. Is there a difference between Bosch and Delco starter? Local shop believes that Bosch starter was used for 1.1 l engine. Could somebody please clarify this?

All of the rebuilt starters I've seen are Bosch. I believe the Delco's were used in the later model cars. As far as one being better than the other I don't know. The support brackets are different IIRC. I don't believe the 1.1 starters would even bolt up to a 1.9.

Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.

No power difference between Bosch and Delco starters . . . 1.1 starters have completely different mounting, won't fit CIH!

I believe the difference between the Bosch and Delco are in the way the solenoids attach... as in the solenoids are not interchangeable...

The Bosch starter is connected to the solenoid by a braided wire with a flag terminal and the Delco has a spade type terminal that a bolt passes though to connect to the solenoid. The solenoids also attach differently to the starters as you pointed out.

. . . true, Bosch solenoid mounts to the starter frame by two recessed screws from the rear (flywheel side) while Delco solenoid mounts by two exposed-head screws from the front. As has been mentioned before, the starter's front mounting bracket (to engine) is also unique to each brand!

Thanks everybody for the assistance. Due to slow cranking (especially when the engine was hot) I thought that Bosch starter might have less power than Delco. It must be just my "new" Bosch starter - thank you eBay!

I have a Delco starter on my 73 GT. When I took it to have it rebuilt, the shop could not get a solenoid for it. So, I called Opel GT Source and Gil asked me which starter I had because it made a big difference in the solenoid used and the cost. He said the Delco cost more, a lot more. But it works great now. No problems at all. Starts fast and easy. I think he said it was only 1973 that had the Delco starter. I may be wrong about that though...

    . . . of all the Opels I own, only my first purchased '73 GT (1976) has a Delco starter . . .
