    Power steering for Kadett C/ Chevette?

    Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum. I have had a couple of Kadett C's but I now have a Chevette and was wondering if anyone has done a power steering conversion for either of these types of cars? I was kind of thinking that Kadett C's are Germanys answer to the Mk2 Escort and with them being popular there I thought you guys would be the best people to ask.

    Cheers. Bones....

    Hi Bones, and welcome to the site, most of the info you'll find here is up to 1975, so much on Kadett C will not be found here, but why do you want power steering for a C Kadett?? I have owned one in the past and found it very easy to turn the wheels around even when standing still, almost could turn the steering wheel with my pinky
    Opel Ascona;
    driving one is like living on the edge.

    I'm wanting to fit some power steering on my Vauxhall Chevette (similar to Kaddet c) I have a quick rack fitted and very sticky tyres, but the problem is when i'm going sideways at speed ,you just can't get enough lock on quick enough. I'm not saying I can't get the lock on it's just I want to be going say another 20mph faster . For track days.

    Not sure it will help, but the US market Chevrolet Chevette shared much with the other GM Chevettes and had power steering optional for some years.
    Here is just one parts source showing rack, pumps, etc. for the Chevy Chevette.
    RockAuto Parts Catalog
    With work, it may be adaptable.

    Thanks Aardvaark, I had a look at the web site, the racks look similar but if I fitted one to my Chevette I would be turning left when I wanted to go right. I wonder if there are any American type Chevette/Kadett's that had power steering but with the steering wheel on the right hand side of the car anywhere else in the world?
    Cheers Bones..

    Maybe. I believe someone said there was an Australian/New Zealand market
    Holden Chevette you could look into. I forgot about how y'all drive on the wrong side of the road over there.

    You might check the JDM Isuzu's too. Since they built the LHD Japanese version sold in the USA. Probably made a RHD version too.

    Here is an new product just coming to market that may fit your car.
    It's a self contained electronic power steering that fits between your
    steering column and rack and pinion. Kind of pricey though.

    I do autograss racing and some of the guys there are using Corsa power steering. Its the same as the motor shown on the above thread. Only thing you need is an electronic unit available from Steve Walsh (i think) motorsport. Its on a link from the autograss review web site
