    Will Opel do a Coupe???

I've been doing a bit of surfing on Youtube for Opel GT's and found this.......

YouTube - 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe/ First Impressions

I was wondering if any of you have seen it in the flesh or even driven one. Obviously the Solstice / Sky / GT are all related and so i think this seems pretty cool. If my Dad hears that Opel might do a coupe then it could be on his Christmas wish list as although he's madly in love with the new Convertible i think mother might need a bit more persuading.....fingers crossed if you ask me.

Yes, seen the sneak peaks of the Solstice Targa/Hard Top a few months ago.

Partially based on the Edag idea, but with far better execution, as the top is not a 'add-on' for the convertible, but actually a different roof entirely.

The edag version may have been better as far as interior space is concerned, but the GM roof is far better.

The last mention will be the roof lines. I have imagined this top reworked to fit the Sky/GT, and "IF",... GM takes this concept, and reworks the windows of the Sky/GT to a more classic GT sweep, as well as making the back glass look like the vintage GT, then the rear 3/4 view of the car will evoke the classic GTs looks.

Of course, then we need to give the front grill a slight change to make it more GT like, and we have a winner.

If I understand correctly, this Solstice Couple will be out in 09.
Here is a Sky Couple that someone Photoshopped up.
    Not bad.

Yeah you're right the Solstice is out in 09......it was 2am UK time when i put up the thread and as i got into bed i remembered that it wasn't '09 yet, but i was pooped and there was no way i was going to get up an edit it.

That photoshop pic looks good and the lines are definately more a-la original GT. Now here's a question for those in the know, ' how many of the panels from the Solstice and Sky are inter-changeable?'

I know the rear end (rear panel) is different to the Sky but are the 2 cars effectively the same with the front end (what we might call the front clam) the main difference? So basically could you buy a Solstice Coupe and put a Sky / GT front end on, then you can have your GT Coupe cake and eat it

    Only Solstice . . .

. . . last word I got from a "source" is that the "coupe" is exclusively a Pontiac model for at least 2009 and possibly 2010, neither Saturn or Opel will get it until possibly later.

I'm thinking a Brazen (think metallic Fireglow) Solstice GXT Coupe (260HP/260LB-FT SIDI twin-scroll turbo 2.0 Ecotec VVT DOHC) would be very nice . . . already checking German Opel GT badging!

While I'm solidly a roadster fan, this coupe (targa GT??) looks pretty damn good to me. I would consider shedding my '72 GT for a new Solstice Coup.

Hey have you lost your mind....You don't sell an Opel to buy another car you start building your collection.. (unfortunately sometimes it gets a little out of control).. I'd definitely like to add a coupe if /when it comes out.. On the negative side .. I recently read that the Sky/Solstice/GT are costing too much to build and will be discontinued or changed around 2010

. . . kind of reminds me of '60s MG add-on tops, never looked very good on those either, IMO. The wing looks exactly like any of those found on many of today's Asian "pretend racer" cars . . . only thing missing is the add-on 6" chrome exhaust tip!

    GM hydro-formed Kappa chassis

. . . actually, it's the hydro-formed Kappa chassis of these models that appears to be the culprit and which GM wants to change. Somewhere I read it was reported that GM loses ~$10K on every Kappa chassis car! . . . wonder how their bean-counters missed that one. No wonder they're in trouble.

Funny thing is, GM was raving about the Kappa chassis cars at their introduction and stating that hydro-forming was the technology of the future for them and would be used across all their product lines!
