info on thread removal

many moons ago the norm was to inform by pm people when a thread was removed , locked or moved so the members involved knew what was going on

do we not do that now ?

in the last month i have had one locked and one removed and had to go asking what for or why

to save me and others from hitting the pm's to find out could this be resumed please

I cannot speak for the other moderators here, but generally I would notify a user that I was closing the thread and explain why. After all, they may not have known they were breaking "etiquette". In your case, I felt no need to have to PM a former moderator with over 4600 posts why I was shutting down a non-opel-related political post that is CERTAIN to incite bickering among members.

The locked one was an accident. The moderator did not know he had closed the thread.

With the thread today, I removed it after it was closed. It was during my lunch break and I did not think to let you know. Sorry.

Politics in the U.S. is verrrry polarizing. There is no middle ground. You are on one side or the other and can no longer have a civil conversation about it as it quickly turns into a negative, name calling, finger pointing shouting match.

That is why we are very cautous about political comments on this site.

Just saw your second post: I have not looked at the humor forum lately, but generally the rules are more relaxed there as the posts do not make the front page.

My understanding is that politics has been a no-no in the forums since at least 2004. The humor forum, on the other hand, IS where that sort of thing should go, that's why such posts are there. Outside of the humor area, there's a general desire to keep things automotive-related in some way. I hope this helps clear things up.

i agree todd that politics is a joke
and if it was moved there and i was told i would have been happy but the reason for this post is to find out why there was no warning or explanation of the thread being removed high poster or first poster it would have been nice

dont object to opition added but still think member posting should be informed as a courtesy
