Thread: Injector for Turbo CIH

    Injector for Turbo CIH

Hello everyone.the question this time is about injectors.Im doing a turbo project aiming for no more than 200 bhp from a 2.0L CIH.The engine is currently fitted with LE-Jetronic and stock injectors.Ive also got a full wiring from an L-Jetronic engine which uses the low impedance injectors with the resistor pack.My question is which one should i use the L or the LE jetronic and which injectors to go for that fit on the stock mounting.A cost effective solution is needed if possible.

Well I think we need to hear from RallyBob on this one but my answer would be I don't think either one will work. To crank that much HP and use injection you are going to need to use MegaSquirt or some other aftermarket injection computer, otherwise there is no way you will be able to tune the beast you want to create.

I was thinking the same actually that the stock injection is not up to the job.But at this point going to even a megasquirt would not be possible money wise. This project is all about cheap power.Im not really bothered about the engine going bang. Its just a trial and error.i know for sure that the stock injectors are only good for up to 150bhp tops and thats not when you want to run a bit rich when on boost.Iheard of different injectors that can be used but i want to be sure before i go out there to buy them...

have a look through the fuel injection mods forum theres a post in there some place with a list of injectors and how much they inject so you can work out what you need

its only got about 800 + posts in it so should not take too long LOL

these injectors are too small IMO even for a NA race CIH,
by memory they are only about 180-190cc/mn,
on my race 2.5 I'm using 300+cc/mn injectors with the Megasquirt EFI.

I'm using 2.2 injectors and an Emerald ECU on my 190bhp GT, the standard air-flow meter just couldn't cope with the mods, plus the Emerald means there's loads of adjustability for future mods.

So that means that if i use the 2.2 injectors i should be ok then. What colour are they by the way and what flow rate do they have?Any better solution? Thanks again guys for all the info its been great. The project should be finished soon so pics will follow

Not with a turbo. Turbos need richer air fuel ratios. For 200 whp you need at least 300 cc injectors. That is far above stock 2.2 injectors.

So going for 300cc injectors is my aim.I was affraid that the 2.2 injectors wouldnt be enough.Any ideas of which injectors to use?preferably from anonther vehicle so that i can find them a bit cheaper second hand. Also is it better to use low impedance or high as i have both wirings? Thanks again everyone. The amount of information i get here is really great and is helping me a lot

I'm not an expert on the subject, unlike some of the guys on here (no names Bob), but i have to agree that the 2.2's in my GT are at about their limit.

If you're looking for alternatives what about the injectors from the LET engine as found in the Calibra or G60 Golf....i know there'll be plenty of American applications but as you're in Greece i'm just trying to suggest something accessable.

Good idea motor mouth.Do you know if they fit straight in or i have to change anything? Is the XE and the LET using the same injectors or only the LET have enough flow rate for me?Maybe some cosworth injectors from the 2.0l engine might be fine as well.If you know any specific model that fits and its about 300cc that would be great.Sourcing of parts is not a problem for me as i spend a lot of time in UK as well. Thanks for the time you spend on this guys

Hello everyone.I found a set of c20let injectors. If you guys tell me that they fit then i will buy them.Do you know their flow rate? Thanks again

is the injection system stock ? if so the later injectors dont fit i think

the stock ones have a rubber tube to join them to the fuel rail and later ones have "o" ring seals and have cups that slide over them to fix them in

i have an excel file with the older style injectors on it listing flow and stuff will dig it out and post soon as i can find it if i cant find the link to it here

Thanks for the reply baz.I havent actually thought about mounting on the fuel rail side. But that shouldnt be a problem i can make a fuel rail. The problem is if they mount on the intake? But im sure thats not the only option. An injector from an old bmw might fit as well.I need your info on that.I found one injector on this excel list that has 300cc.It says its from a volvo.Any more info on that would be great like model and year.Ive also heard about the alfa romeo 75 1.8l turbo engine.Any ideas on that?

they are all the same injector

the chart is just to show what power can be had from the stock injector under different pressures in different uses (i found it when looking at what could be done with a jag V12 i had )

if making a fuel rail is not a problem then you can go with any injector to get the flow you need just a case of finding one that gets the power/cylinder you want as a max in another turbo engine and getting 4 of them to work with as a starting point

hello again guys.Ive found a couple of injectors im going to try and see how it goes (ive had some friends providing me with some from a vw 1.8 turbo engine and from a fiat coupe 20 valve 2.0l turbo). My next question is about the fuel rail.Is it possible to use any from any other car or a custom made one is the only option?
