    Secret Audio

Has anybody used Secret Audio in their car. It comes from Custom Auto Sound. I was curious about how well the system works and holds up.

I have their system in my GT. It worked out nice for me. The unit is mounted next to the spare tire and I use the remote to control it. Nothing mounted in the dash, just a blanking plate there.

The CD player bit the dust after the first year and I called up Custom Auto Sound to see what they could do. Turns out they were having some issues with that particular model, they said send it to them and they would replace it. Aside from shipping my old unit back to them, it cost me nothing. I recieved the newer model a couple weeks later and its worked fine ever since. No hastle, nice people to work with. That was about two years ago.

The other problem I have is that when I did my body work I filled the antenna hole in the front fender. I don't want to drill the hole back out so I'm still looking for a good hidden antenna...bought a cheap one a while back but it didn't pick up much more signal then I had with out one... oh, well guess it's just CD's for me.

    Retrosound

Find Car Audio/Video Gear that Fits Your Vehicle at Crutchfield!

Retrosound looks like it will fit Opel GT Dash.
It does not play CDs'. Price is approx. $300.

Why not mount an antenna inside the car on the back deck?
Opel GTs are not GM products

Hey MATL59, how did you mount the radio back there by the tire. Could you send me some pics?

I had one of those interior mounted antennas on the rear glass for a short time. It didn't seem to do much. Maybe I just bought a crappy one...

I don't have any pics of the mounting set up handy at the moment. Its pretty simple though. The brackets come with it. You just take the rear plywood shelf out, drill a few holes and bolt it in.

First of all, this is an amplified AM/FM antenna, like making an antenna a "vacuum" for the signal , also, except for the ground wire, this antenna just adheres to the back glass of my Sportwagon

I have not seen or used the secret audio, but I have seen and used a similar system: take any removable faceplate unit, a length of ribbon cable, and a soldering gun. I know this works with older Alpine CD units, and I would imagine it would work with others as well. You can mount the faceplate somewhere discrete, or have it hinge back out of sight when not wanted, and put the large unit wherever you want.
Just though I'd mention the DIY low-cost alternative.
