67 Kadett pop out windows

Just wondering.........
Prior to paint I removed the rear pop out window glass on my early 1967 Kadett Rallye. That wasn't too bad....it's held in with rubber adhesive in to the long "hinge" on the front edge. But I looked everywhere trying to see how you would actually remove that footlong "hinge" from the B pillar post to then be able to remove the aluminum window surround trim. Made no sense on how either the hinged piece (which appears to be held in by a non-removable hard plastic hinge piece inserted into the B post itself), could be removed without screwing up the piece, or how the aluminum trim could be removed without taking that hinged retainer off!
The aluminum drip rail was a lot easier to remove on a Kadett than it was on my Manta. The Kadett's rail is held on by a few small rivets that you can remove with a punch and then carefully, starting at the rear, twist up and off the rail.

Gordy while I cant answer about your 67, but if its the same as 69 kadett, then there are two rubber "hinges" that push into the pillar into which pushes the chrome hinge bracket. That bracket holds the glass in place yet allows it to pivot and open a bit. I had to get new rubber bushings or hinges as I was not successful getting all of them out without ruining them. You will likely have to go overseas to get the rubber parts.

That "hard plastic piece" is really a rubber plug that acts as the hinge. You need to pull harder on the retaier strip and pull it out of the rubber. Like Tom said, it'll probably mess up the rubber plugs, but if yours are hard enough to mistake for plastic then they could use replacement anyway.

I've actually never managed to get the glass out of the retainer strip without breaking it, so I can't imagine how much of a hassle that must have been.

Great info! I will look into that. It was one of those things that FSM never even touch base on.
As far as getting the glass out of the metal piece it attaches to at the front of the window, I started by heating the strip up to hopefully soften the adhesive. Next I took a putty knife and tried to run it up and down in between the glass and the metal part and get as much of the adhesive out as I could. (both the inner and outer sides of the 1/4 window. And then a steady pull the window came on out. Guess I got lucky, I was 2 for 2.
Then to get the aluminum trim off was when I said, after surveying the situation..."What the heck........!!!!!!!! The foot long hinge kept the trim (which is just held in place with more black adhesive junk) from being able to be removed!

What I ended up doing was sending payment direct to info@reprotec.org using Paypal along with my order information in the notes section. I'll let everyone know how this works out.

I was able to order the rubber "hinges" along with all my other rubber parts from Udo at Splendid Parts.com. He now accepts Pay Pal and his site is available in English. Great source for hard to find in the US items! Udo is great with communicating info to you as well!
