Bare bones engine wiring diagram . . .

Since I've been asked a number of times, typically just after a rebuild and before engine is replaced in the car, about the minimum engine "Start/Run" wiring requirements and, seeing that a picture still appears to be "worth a thousand words", I've illustrated it in a "Windows Paint" pic for you . . .

I see someone had some free time and was missing their coloring crayons.

    Quite complete. Good job.
Alternately for those whose clear resistance wire is toast, you can insert a ballast resistor from an older car (for instance 1973 Plymouth Fury III) instead of the resistance wire.
    Guess how I know. ~L

What is the resistance of the wire? I know that you can find it elsewhere, but I think that it would be useful to include in the diagram

Minimum for sure! It will only run until the battery dies unless you add the alternator circuitry.

Except race cars don't have a key type ignition switch.

Mine uses a SPST toggle for ignition (power to the coil) and momentary SPDT toggle for "start" and "fuel pump relay/oil pressure cut out Bypass".

Remember when all cars used to be wired that simple? Oh, maybe not...
