big project ahead of me! (Rusty GT In Ireland)

hi everyone im new here and i come from northern ireland in the uk i have just bought an opel gt for £275 but the problem is it is very rotten and rust and would just like to know how easy it is to get panel or will they need to be made from scratch?

the front end is completely rotten most of the floor maybe even the chassis this is how bad the car is and it has been lying on gras for a number of years now if parts are hard to get then i will probably make it into a track day car but would love to restore it to its former glory.

thanks to anyone who helps in advanced

    dave

Good body panels are very hard to come by. You either need to improvise or find a solid bodied car and use your current one as a parts donor. Good luck with it!

...and there`s Welcome to Suselbeek Opel GT parts cars and service in Holland, if you can get their attention. They have most of the body parts, but be prepared to pay...

..and welcome to the community, btw.

    hi dave and welcome

these little baby's look fast but they are really just a 1964 kadett so are hard to make into a worth while track car

if the body is so bad it may be worth looking on american e-bay for a good shell and having it shipped over or contact motor mouth here who is top honcho in the brit gt club to see if theres any bits going for sale

There's a member or two in Europe that have done this conversion, very do-able. I just wish there was a way I could get my hands on such a motor. I have the 5-spd that goes to it.
As for the conversion to RHD, if you just have $$$ to burn, OK, but, a guy in Australia did it and did it right. Looks like a factory job, cost? Rumored to be about $40K USD

red top goes right in with a 5 speed from a 1.8 manta B and a shortened prop

changing to rhd can be done but the ones i have seen have had herald dashes in them and looked like s**t , i think a fiesta dash might be close but does not look good to me , jag xjs dash with some work will fit ( i was at one time going to drop the body of my gt onto an xjs floor pan complete with running gear and V12 but the tablets finally kicked in and a did not do it , some times wish i never got those tablets from the doc but never mind )
