    Tip: Check your suspension!

Let's face it, our Opels are not THAT new anymore. Specifically if your car (and that's not only for Opels) is lowered and has harder shocks mounted, check the spring and shock mounts at least every three month. You might be surprised what you find. I checked out the Jägermeister in January, and everything was OK. I checked it out this week, and not everything was still OK. The shock mount on the RH upper control arm was 70% torn off, only attached on a small strip to the arm. I had both upper rear shock mounts (on the body) look about the same on my Röhrl-Rallye when I was driving it in Germany long ago. The hard blows going into the metal again and again bring it to fatigue and harden, and at some time it just breaks. It is not ever worth nor safe to repair a part like that, it needs to be replaced. In order to repair it right, you have to know exactly what the material is, and how to anneal it (in an oven, not with your torch!) to get it re-useable. It's not worth it! I temporarily fixed my problem with my welder because I want to bring the Jägermeister to Carlisle, but a set of new control arms are already on order. You don't need to be scared Edwin, we will make it safe and sound! It's only 1500 miles there and back!

And you let Dieter drive it very much.

Never fool around with "I think it'll be okay repairs" on Suspension and Brake components. If the engine or tranny fails, you walk. If the suspension or brakes fail you make wreck and not be able to walk.

Predictions: Edwin will appear older, much older after this trip. This trip will require the purchase of extra cigarettes.
