Looks like I won't be joining you this year.

Anyone who is able should consider getiing their "kicks on Rt. 66"
This is usually the largest gathering of Opelers in the Midwest.
John and Connie are excellent hosts, and downtown Springfield is a
    great setting.
Hoping to be there next year...

Okay we are getting to be about a month away from the event and I guess it's time to get serious. I saw the earlier posts and once again thanks to Mark for getting info out to folks. Ron sorry to hear you will not be able to make it, you and your GT are always a great addition to any event. I have been trying to take care of some other stuff. I will have decals for the first 20 Opels and they will be Red this year. I have gotten the final on the shirt design and will try and add it to this post. My intention is to have them printed on Black shirts and Orange shirts with Pockets. Either short sleeve or long sleeve. If you want one please let me know with a PM stating size, color, and sleeve length. Prices should be about the same as last year, around 22/23 dollars short sleeve and 24/25 long sleeve. I need to get the order in by September 8th. I will be ordering 4 awards for our own presentation Saturday evening, Best GT, Best Manta/Ascona, Best Kadett or Pre-1965, and Longest Drive in Opel. Of course one of the things that sets this apart from other general events is the Opel specific class for the event awards. I have been told these will be picked by a paid judging staff and awarded on the main stage on Sunday afternoon. If you need a room please get them reserved ASAP as I am sure they will release any unreserved rooms a couple of weeks before the event. If the weather is as nice as it was this weekend it will be a really great time.

Just wanted to do a bump and add a couple of things. Thanks to Gordy we will have name tags available for our evening gab fests. Also I may try to do a separate shirt thread but if I do not get that done I wanted to let you all know I need the orders in by Sept. 7th. Also there is an effort out there to get the " Can O Keys" at the event. As I understand how this works if you find a key in the can that works on something you own take it, if you have keys that do not fit anything you have throw them in the can. Also how many think they will eat with us Saturday night at Top Cats? Time is getting short for room reservations!

Had planned on going this year but a recent purchase of another GT will likely scratch my plans. A quick trip to Colorado to bring back a one owner car that was last tagged in Iowa in 96 is what I did this weekend. Car was purchased in Des Moines in 72 and was brought back to its roots (Iowa). Motor hasn't been started in about 12 years so hope that goes alright after some prep. Also, I met a pickup with a GT headed west in Nebraska on I-80 saturday. Hope to be there next year.

    John,

My son, Taylor and I will be coming on Saturday for the show and staying overnight at Route 66 hotel. You can count us in for dinner at Top Cats. Thanks! See you all later this month. Please hold one XL tee shirt and one medium tee shirt. I don't remember what colors you have, but if you have white; we'll both take that.

Well folks I guess it's time to do a little updating. I think I got all the shirt orders in and a few extra, our Saturday afternoon awards are here. If anyone has something to bring to the door prize drawing please do. As to the event itself. Friday is the one day I am up in the air over. In the past we have went to dinner as a group and did at least a portion of the parade route to downtown. For those of you who have been there timing has always been close. This year the place we ate at is closed and the parade starts I believe at 6:00 pm. This year it may be better for those who need to eat before the parade line up to catch it on their own and then have us meet on the Hotel parking lot at 5:00 pm to travel to the staging point. This may work out for a later group dinner at someplace like Golden Corral. If we pull out of the parade at the hotel and collect any stragglers there are places to eat going toward the Interstate. I think if we plan to meet Saturday morning by 8:30 AM on the parking lot at the Rt 66 Hotel it should put us at the gates in good time. I am sure it will be as before those who are pre-registered will go in and grab a parking spot and those who are not will catch up to us after they register. We will gather to vote on our own awards at 3:30 pm and then try to get to Top Cats by 5:30. If you get there too late to drive in with us I will post a number for you to call or just tell the folks parking you are with our group and they should send you over. Sunday most folks like to sleep in after a night at the hospitality room so lets figure to leave the parking lot for downtown around 10:00 AM. Everybody start putting in your request for a nice weekend, I think we should have a good turnout. They will turn our block of rooms loose a week before the event.

I thought this would be a good time to do a bump. It's now getting close to the time they will close out our room block so if you have been on the fence on this it would be time to call them. Most everything seems to be in place, I talked with Gill Wesson at Opel GT Source and he is to send us some goodies for the Saturday drawing. Not sure on weather but it has been great here lately. I'll be waxing the GT this weekend and getting ready to see you all the following week.
