Kadett rear license plate lamp assembly . . .

. . . in desperate need of one Kadett rear license plate light assembly, both sides are the same according to parts book . . . actually only need metal lamp/mounting bracket on inside of lens, but easier to get whole thing most likely. Metal bracket needs to be fairly rust free, at least so the power wire retaining screw still can be moved . . . tiny, tiny and will snap off if forced, ask me how I know.



My left license light bracket assembly was in like-new condition, my right bracket was completely rusted, amazing that the light still functioned . . . anyone have one in decent condition that they'd be willing to part with . . . PLEASE!?

Otto, I take it that you could use what you have there if the broken screw could be removed?

If so - just soak the whole unit in Coca-Cola (tm) for a week or so and all the rust and corrosion should soften up enough to worry the broken bit out with a scriber.

Doesn't matter if the Coke goes flat as it is the Phosphoric and Carbonic acid in the mix which softens both the rust on the steel bits and the corrosion on the brass bits.

Hmmm ,,, I remember getting some later model ones of those off EBay some time ago hoping that they would fit my '67 Kadett but they were somewhat larger - I'll have a look.

Had a look and the later ones are a bit different. The one I have has Hella and K114 stamped on it. The bulb is a single contact round one instead of a linear filament. The Lense also has Hella and K114 on it with SAE L2 and Made in Germany. Wonder what exact model it is off?

Did indeed want to stay "original" if possible and after a couple of 3-day coke trips . . . uh, dips, decided to spend the time and effort to bring that lamp bracket back to life as it came out much better than expected . . .



. . . then very carefully clamped everything in place on my "vintage 1957" Delta drill press with a 2-axis adjustable vise and very carefully drilled out rusted threaded piece. Then I re-tapped screw hole to M3x0.6 . . . told you it was tiny! . . . and will look for retainer screw tomorrow . . . WOOHOO!!

A bit of Por15 will enhance survival and some latter industrial electical fittings (especially imported European ones!) do have nice wee silver plated 3mm screws. Even a stainless steel 3mm grub screw would do the job too.
