    Curious....

Just wondering, how many on this site accually race thier GTs in SCCA or NASA style events? I'd like to find out other people's experiance with that due to what i'm getting into. If anybody was successful in campaining a engine/drivetrain swapped car in either organization, or anywhere in the States for that matter, i would definately like to hear from them. Thanks!

I don't know of anyone running any sanctioned NASA events in a GT.

There are some running GT's in SCCA however. Hard to say who is running what these days, as a lot of the cars are temporarily out of action and/or changing classes. We have only a couple of GT's that are running GT-Lite, a few running F-Production, and another handful running in ITB. SCCA doesn't allow any driveline swaps BTW, the original engine must be used, with limited mods depending on the class. Even in NASA, the driveline needs to be manufacturer-based.

Right now, the only person running regularly is Ken Alderson, running Stan Czacki's old car. I believe he's running it as an F-Production car right now, but it has been run as GT-Lite before too with some changes. He's been doing well and I think he's planning on entering the Runoffs this year.

Tom Drake used to run GT-Lite, but hates running a restrictor, so he's running historic classes at this time.

Jim MacMahon has taken some time off from racing, but should be back next year in ITB.

I'm not sure about other driver's plans right now, but a few of the cars are in transition as mentioned (ITB to F-Production).

There might not be many GTs in NASA but theres a first time for everything! Im willing to do my engine swap and get all the required dyno testing that NASA mandates for all swapped cars to determine a cars class. Who and all on here frequent VIR? I live 20 or 30 minutes away and if there is anybody close id like to be able to share and swap info and ideas.

I have been out of racing for about two years due to medical issues, and am not sure that when I am ready to come back I can keep up with a FP or GTL car....at this point I am not sure what I want to do with the car...if I am going to sell it or what...it is too far along to go back to ITB, but need a lot of work to get to the other classes...It does not need any parts just lots of labor.

Car was a blast to run for the few races I ran before the surgery...they can make pretty good race cars with a little hard work.

The thing that was killing me was looking at it sitting with all those parts just sitting there waiting for me to finish it up. Fire system, brakes, shocks, you name it everything was there....it was very depressing. Finally I had a neighbor come over and get it to where it would roll and he put it in my trailer with all my stuff....and there it has sat.

Going to the races for the first time since the surgery this weekend to pick up the last race of the season at HPT.

My wife has already said I can have another car....anything I would like, someone else is just going to have to take care of it if it needs anything too heavy. And an Opel is just too far out there for just anyone to help with....unless I move to the north east So it looks like I might look at a FV, or SRF. I think I could do most of that myself...but if I go to a new car I would like to do an AS....but then we get into the big stuff again....who knows after I go to the races again I just might not get the bug like I had a while ago.
