    Auto transmission leak

i got a 1972 opel gt. the transmission has a leak in it. i replaced the pan gasket and filter. It looks like the leak is coming from the passanger side by the drop down cable. any ideas where or what could be leaking? i thought i would check on here before i took it to a trans shop.

My best guess would be the dip stick tube o-ring.

Or possibly the o-ring on the kick down cable. I've also seen a crack in the kick down cable cover be the source for a leak. You might check the vacuum modulator as well. There isn't much else to check.

That's where mine was leaking. An easy fix (see file posted by Anon-D)
Also, be careful not to overfill. See FSM (or search here)for the proper procedure for checking the ATF level.

After the leak is fixed, check the breather/vent to make sure its clear.
Small insects love to build there nests in tight places.

It's not easy. You have to be prepared to have to lower both the engine and transmission, just to get adequate access to the dipstick tube seal.

Adding silicone above the o-ring also requires that the tube be supported in the correct position and dry, for 24 hours for the sealer to fully cure.
