Out the top
Out the bottom
The quality of the material on these engines and design as well to me is very impressive. My machinist told me never to bring him another opel flywheel again to turn as it was so hard. The internal components are phenomenal especially the blocks, so if they were going to cheap out on anything I am glad it was things like stamped steel pulleys and the like.

If you read this thread, you will know that there is a difference of opinion about whether to pull and install the engine on a GT out the bottom (as the Factory Service Manual, aka FSM, specifies) or out the top (as about 20% of the respondents to this poll seem to believe). But in any case, you CAN NOT leave "all the hardware" on the engine. But I'll leave you to read this thread again without providing the details. And if you don't have a FSM (or at least a reasonable after-market service manual) you need to get one before you undertake this task.

Where in PA are you located? We have a lot of member all over PA and we may be able to help you pull the engine.
I did mine out the top back in '85, but I had the head removed, manifolds removed, and everything else removed(except the transmission). I still broke the gas pedal linkage doing it that way. Now that I know how the car is put together, I'd recommend out the bottom. I did this with jerseydave's GT and it was much easier. I also replaced my oil pan gasket by removing the engine crossmember and once that is out, you will see how easy it is to drop it out the bottom (The engine was supported while the crossmember was out.
Hope that helps
Jeff
