I am 51 and recently sold my 74 Manta. (Hope to find a solid 71-75 Ascona 4speed to replace it) I have owned the following Opels over the last 30+ years

    66 Kadette 1.1 (1974)
    70 Kadette 1.1 (1974)
    72 Ascona 1.9 (1976)
    74 Manta Luxus 1.9 (1976)
    69 Kadette wagon 1.1 (1977)
    71 Manta 1.9 (1981)
    74 Manta 1.9 (2003)

My best memory was drifting sideways thru several gates to win an SCCA Solo II event at IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park) in 1976

Really enjoy the site, thanks to all for the efforts they put into it

I'll admit it, I'm 47. Now have the time to enjoy sports cars. I've been into sports cars since I was a teenager but never really had one. Got my GT several years ago. Drove it for a while till I couldn't keep up with the small stuff. Stored it while adjusting to a new line of work, retired from military and got a real job. Now working on a complete resto on the GT. Recently got a Miata to drive, gets twice the gas milage of my truck. Plan on autocrossing it this year. Now looking forward to kids tuition to end. Then I can afford this expensive hobby a little more.

My first car was an 1970 Orange Opel GT

My first car was 1970 Orange Opel GT. Soon to be 50 and new ower of 1971 Opel GT orange. I always loved Opel Gts. I guess, I am having a mid life crisis.

Bought my first GT after driving my uncles for a weekend back when I was 19. Got slammed from behind while sitting at a stoplight by a 67 Coupe de Ville that wasn't paying attention... it wasn't pretty! My wife of 20 years bought me another one as a project about 14 years ago because she knew how much I liked the car. It ended up being a mechanical donor for the GT I'm restoring now (ground up restomod). I'm hoping to have it finished in time for Carlisle this year. I'm 50 this year but my body feels much older sometimes. In my mind I'm still that 19 year old!

Bougt my GT when I was 19 y/o. After almost 21 years I'm still driving this GT!
"We" had a lot of ups and downs, when my GT would have another owner, it would certainly have ended on the "car cemetery" a long time ago. When you imagine I drive my GT daily, all seasons, rain, snow, freezing conditions.... you name it. I rather would not, but I can't have it all. We have a Ford estate as a familycar, but this car is my girlfriend's. The only time I drive the Ford is in the weekends. I keep my GT in shape, and in these 21 years I restored the car 3 times. "Restored" is a big word. When I need a new engine I won't give it a make-over, I'll buy another one. First I had two 1,9 ltr engines, then a 2.0 engine with a weber, and now I drive a 2.2E 5speed.
At he moment I'm 39 years, my 30-ties will be over after june 19th...
In 1993 I bought my 2nd GT and painted it in "Daihatsu Peacock blue".
It's a beautiful blue color and everybody who sees the car is making compliments about the paint. So if you don't what color you want, this is the one! See for my pics the member Albums (blauwmarc)

    Almost 47

My 2nd car was an Orange 71 Opel GT with A/C. That was when I was 18-21. Just purchased a 71 GT after 26 years.....21+26=47...Yeah I'm 47 in 2 months. Excited about meeting more Opelers in Carlisle in May.

I am near the oldest I think, I'm 66 and got my first Opel in 1970 (69 Kadette)Wagon. Aguy I worked with had it and came to work cussing it every day(backfires when I let up to shift, rear muffler keeps falling off yatayatayata) I was driving a pickup truck that got about 10 MPG, 23 miles to work one way. I gave him $550.00 for the car, took it to a muffler shop and had a piece of pipe put on it to do away with the rear muffler, plugged the tubes going into the exhaust manifold, threw away the anti-backfire valve and smog pump, recurved the distributor and drove it for 9 years then sold it for $850.00. I became involved with research and development of equipment for Opels for a Opel shop and since the first one I have owned 3 1900 (Ascona) sedans, 5 Mantas and 11 GT's along with a Kadette drag car and a GT's parking lot racer. I currently have 2 GT's and a Manta that are drivable and two GT parts cars.

    Hi All

I'm new to the forum, and am getting ready to take my '69 GT out of mothballs. I bought the car when I was 15, and I'm 45 now. Drove it through high school and restored it when I was in college. Drove it for a few years after, then put it in storage.

It's hard to believe that after about 25 years, I'm finally going to start driving it again Hope to get a lot of good information on parts sources, etc. from the forum.

I'm 28, my 1st run in with an Opel GT was my sisters' BFs. I think I was 12 or 13 at the time. My main interest is minitrucks, but I always thought it would be cool to have a GT. Fast Forward to this past Jan. I noticed an add for a GT in the paper. I was gonna go check it out but I didn't have the cash, so I was like why bother. After it stayed in the peper for a MONTH, & I came up with $500, Icalled th guy & bought it the next day. Almost $1K later in parts, its still in the garage, lol but mainly due to my own laziness. It runs though, I drove it. Just gotta gett on my duff & fix the wiring issues I found when I was fixing the others.
