    Rear Axle Vent Cap

Would anyone happen to have a rear axle vent cap/valve for a late model rear end they would part with. or is there an alternative I can do. I have 3 differentials, and all the caps are missing, just a hole in the top. Is it even needed?? I would assume to at least keep the dirt out.

    Thanks

Sorry it's missing from the other axle. Dean or maybe Husker?

Could someone at least tell me exactly what it is. If it is just a cap, I think I can make something that will work. Or is it a "check-valve" that would leak oil if not properly replaced.

    Thanks

it is just an air vent, I have an idea but need to check the thread pitch for it.

if you get a plastic thread plug (like a small bolt used to stop dirt getting down pipes like hydrolic pipes ) you can put a small hole in it and push fit it in for now

The axle vent on my old Dodge Ramcharger had a nut welded to it and a threaded nipple with a tube slipped over it and loosely attached to the body with some slack for axle travel. The tube had a vent cap also but you could probably get by with just making sure the tip of the tube went up and turned back down to prevent water from entering.

I was looking at the other axle last night and that is a press fit item, no threads to it. It is the right size to be tapped for 1/8 NPT. Air vents in that size are common but I'd pull the axle to get the chips out if you take that route. Kevin, try a PM to Husker and see if he'll part with one. He is very close to you and has 2 that are basicly parts.
