    GT Throttle linkage

i searched around and looked at a bunch of threads and couldn't find exactly what i wanna know, i'm putting my car back together finally and i'm stuck on how to attach the throttle linkage.

i know there is something to do with pins and clips on those ball joints from what i have read, but i don't know exactly how to get the rods onto the ball joints, can anyone help me out?

the linkages just "snap" onto each other, and then have little wire clips that hold them together so they dont snap apart too easily.

my linkage is already put together, just its not in the car... is it the same snap together thing when you attach it to the ball joint on the car and the one attached to the engine bay by the pedal? i tried forcing them together but didn't get anywhere... so i gave them a little persuasion with a hammer but didn't want to get too carried away in case i was doing it wrong

well you'll have to take the 3 linkage pieces apart to make them fit into the car. if my camera wasnt so crappy i'd take pics to show you. just work your way from the pedal to the carb. i'd try to explain it but its near impossible with out pics.

both, i have the 3 peices together, and in place in the car... but not attached to the ball joints that the end of the rods go onto, the ones that are on the carb and on that bracket that is attached to the engine bay itself, and i can't figure out how they attach... hopefully that made sense

Brendan, look closely at the base of the sockets where they are attached to the shafts, there may be a clip that goes around the shaft and a straight piece that goes into the socket. Those are the clips that have been referred to. Make sure you take them out before you try to snap in the ball to the socket. The other style has a pair of holes in the top of the socket and the pin goes through the two holes. HTH.

thanks ron and jared, i just went and had a look at it, and it has that clip that goes through one hole and snaps around the rod, i didn't see those little things before.

for anyone else that has the same problem as me: after using a flat head screw driver to pop them off, it slid right in place and all you need to put it back on is your fingers and good eye sight to get it back in the hole.

throttle works now, except i noticed the bushings or whatever they are called on the end of the rod that keep it centered in the hole are rotten so the rods are a bit sloppy... something tells me those aren't easy to find

You can cut a piece of 3/8 rubber hose & slide over shaft end for a quick fix , I have new bushings if you cannot find any.
    Hope this helps , Guyopel

OpelGTsource sells the bushings. To install the poly one on the firewall near the carb, remove the mount from the firewall, lube up the bushing with grease(I use lithium grease) and use a socket as a drift an use a vise to push it into the fitting. Re install and grease the inside of the bushing. This will take about a 1/2 hour for a novice. HTH.

I got them from OGTS, Cheep! and Poly...I think I did both of mine using a socket on the back side of the hole and a large C- Clamp on the front to push them in as well as the grease mentioned! I've still not bought a large vise!!! :o
