    Does anyone have any pictures of any wagons with flares? I'd really like to see a flared Sportwagon.

    Madhatter;
    I did a quick look, but, could not find any right off the bat, but, here's a pic of an Ascona A Sedan, without the real wide racing flares. these are the street type flares. This would be the same as a Sportwagon. I do have a set of these street flares for my Sportwagon, I just haven't gotten around to mounting them yet. Too many other projects that need attention right now.

    P.S. I found this pic of a Manta/Sportwagon on Uwe Klippert's site. It has flares, along with a Manta nose, but, I think these are "hand-made" flares, knowing how good Uwe is.

    There will be one near you next Spring! (Currently the flares are on a U.S. tour: Ca to AZ to TX to SD. Then to OH and CT)

    those flares that are on the ascona, are those about the same that OGTS sells for the manta, or are the ones they sell even wider?

    Adam;
    I don't know if they're wider, but, here's what they'll look like installed.

    Gene, those are the 'small' street flares on the Manta. Note the filler neck opening on the right rear flare. The racing flares that OGTS sells are wider still, and have no filler neck opening. I have some of the old Autosport 'small' flares for my Ascona, as well as large flares for Ascona and Manta. Definitely a difference!

    BTW it looks like Uwe modified Ascona B '400' flares to fit his Mancona wagon.

    Since they're racing flares you'd have a fuel cell out back typically, with the filler neck in the trunk.

    Otherwise you're on your own. I suspect you could cut out the sheetmetal area with the gas cap filler recession, extend the filler hose, and rivet/bond the sheetmetal to the back of the flare (after cutting a hole ni the fiberglass).

    Brian, my '75 Sportwagon is going to be resurrected as a pretty radical beast. It's structurally okay, but the rocker panels and lower 1/4's need help. And since I've always wanted an Opel pickup truck, my plans are to cut the rear upper section off and achieve just that. But, I will be extending the floorpan by 6", bringing the wheelbase to 101.7", and increasing payload capacity. The rocker panels will essentially be 2 x 3 steel structural tubing, and there will be other reinforcements as well. It will retain the Ascona front end (I momentarily toyed with the idea of a Manta nose), but the engine will be set back 6" under the hood. It will use the small Steinmetz flares....I hope to make the front fenders/flares in one piece to save weight and keep from having to use rust-prone steel front fenders. I can mock-up the flares on the wagon if you want to see what it looks like in a photo.

    is there anyone besides OGTS (mainly cuz they sell only the racing ones i guess) that would happen to sell these. i have contacted lenk but it would be awhile till they would be able to get them to me. just didnt know if there was anyone in the states that may have them?

    Probably not. Autosport, More Opel, Parts and Polish...these guys sold Opel parts in the '70's and into the early '80's. They all sold out or closed up shop 20+ years ago. I think Gil got his molds from More Opel IIRC. I seem to remember my small flares coming from Autosport however. Mantapart used to have both sizes of flares as well, but I think his molds were warped/worn out as long as ten years ago.

    Have a look at your local "Rice Boy" shop - they will have fibre glass flares for a number of Japanese cars and a bit of trial and error may find some that fit near enough to be able to be modified to fit .......

    I bought my well traveled ones at Opels Unlimited. Todd is importing them from CYI-Priewe in Germany. They are not a huge flare, just wide enough to add some depth to the sides.

    He also lists a corvette style rear panel for the GT and some different GT flares. Contact OU for a copy of their flyer.

    want some more pics?

    If Gary doesn't mind I could get you some photos of both his style of flares and mine on my sport wagon. Sure the wheels would still be the stockers and the flares would probably be taped on for the photos, but it wouldn't take a lot to do.
    One option I was looking into pretty seriously for my own Kadett was a set of aftermarket extended flares for a late model 4x4 Chevy S-10. The body contour is pretty darn close and the flares are a nice easy circular shape and plenty big.

    Perhaps I should explain the motivation for my search for a flared wagon. First off, everyone has to understand that I craft visions of cars in my head (a triple black, shaved, slammed and blown Buick Roadmaster wagon is one vision of mine that may never go away).

    That being said, my most recent vision is of a shaved, slammed and blown Sportwagon, triple black, blacked out windows. I know what a lowered wagon with the right rims looks like....

    Red wagon with the right rims (that's an example that I could find easily)

    But wondered how well a set of Steinmetz flares would flow on a Sportwagon. That being said, it's not that critical that you guys take the few minutes to mock up the flares. I know now what I have to do...

    ... get a job.

    No, that is not my wagon. That was a picture from the Texas Octoberfest 2004 in the photo album on this site that also had some mean looking Manta B's
