Bob that really looks awesome...
It took me forever to get around to taking a photo and posting it, but here's one of my powdercoated air filter covers. I got a pair of them which are going on a set of Weber 40DFI downdraft carbs on a Sprint intake manifold. Should be a neat mix of new and old.

Does this mean I can't quote Baz's posts anymore?
By the way, these do look great Bob!

"ever notice you are never done tinkering with the GT?"
Never mind, I am WAAAY beyond tinkering now...
All the covers have been sold or given away, thanks for buying them!
I have got a bunch of emails asking about making more.
Next week I will have some open CNC time, so I will run a few more to use up the material I bought.
Email me if you want me to make you one!
Thanks

What is the actual size of the cover?
Thanks,
Swiss
About 4 x 6-1/4 with a radius on the corners, to fit tight in the air cleaner filter.Originally Posted by swiss

Was wondering if anybody used a different filter with the weber air cleaner? Such as a Fram or other make. If so do you have the number? I just dont like the filter that comes with the cleaner.![]()

Karl, the Weber is a good filter.
It is simular to the K&N in design.
Lasts for a long time, just wash it out and re-oil it!
Flows much better than a paper style filter.
My 2 cents.

I have more more air cleaner tops ready to go!
Will ship some out tomorrow.
Thanks for the orders.
Let me know if you want one.

How did you guys run the hoses after you used this air cleaner? What did you do with the holes on the bottom piece?

Karl, the large hole in the Weber bottom plate, should have a 90 degree plastic fitting. Then a 5/8 ID heater type hose to the large hole in the valve cover.Originally Posted by opelgtboy70

Hey all. Just tried to put on my air cleaner cover with the weber air filter and ran into a problem. It didnt come with a plastic 90 degree piece for the large valve cover hose. It has a short metal straight piece fitted in the bottom of the cover. I cant get the hose on it because the hose keep hitting the carb and its too thick. Where can I get one of those 90 degree pieces? I guess Ill have to remove the small metal piece somehow. Any help?

I went there and they didnt have a thing.
Do you think other stores might? or is this a weber item?
Karl
That is one Bad A##s cover. Very nice work. I like it.

I found the piece you are needing at a NAPA store. Napa is better with those kinds of fittings than most.

I have been running the Weber air cleaner assembly, with my finned cover, on my 38DGAS for awhile now. I switched the air cleaner back to the original stock Opel GT snorkle, to test if it worked better in hot weather.
Things I noticed:
The stock air cleaner (with paper filter) is more restrictive than the Weber!
And it is also too quiet, it muffles the intake sound!
The Weber with a K&N type filter lets that awesome "cam overlap sound" blow back through the air cleaner! I think that's what I am hearing!?
It also seems to accelerate faster!
Heat has not been an issue, I have a plastic carb spacer and heat shield installed.
