FM radio in Germany spec cars?

    Hi all,

I don't think any of the Opels sold in the US had a FM radio, but did the cars sold in Germany have one any pics or model numbers/manufactures.

    Thanks :-)

Yes, multi-band, twin-shaft, mono radios were available in Germany . . . Grundig, Blaupunkt, Becker and another brand I can't recall, all offered Euro style, typically four band (AM, FM, LW, MW) radios. The LW and MW bands are not transmitted here, so are redundant. AM/FM bands cover the same frequencies as here, but 'period-correct' radios were all mono . . . i.e. single speaker types. That's it in a nutshell!

Was the other brand Becker.......I do know GM supply Philips these days, or at least they did in the 80's and 90's, but I'm not sure they did the 70's......I wasn't allowed to sit in the front of the car at that time.

Yeah, Becker . . . and it's Phillips (Dutch) for the GM brand mentioned.

Hmmm . . . but they were all mono, right? Oh, and they only have a blue dot (Blaupunkt) on the dial, no script, right?

Interesting pics . . . my four band only has the blue dot, not the Blaupunkt script.

    The correct abbreviations are UKW (Ultra-Kurz-Welle = Ultra-Short-Wave = FM for Frequency-Modulated), MW (Mittelwelle = MediumLength-Wave = AM for Amplitude-Modulated), LW (Langwelle = LongLength-Wave = n/a in USA) and KW (Kurzwelle = ShortLength-Wave = n/a in USA).

    Pin-outs of Frankfurt DIN plug

Begs the question, you wouldn't happen to know the pin-outs (what pins are used for) of that six pin DIN plug on the back now, would you?

That would make it out of a 1969 GT-J correct?

I know that dummy is here in my shop somewhere and I will find it, by the way did you find those lifters yet?

    5-pin vs. 6-pin DIN

5-pin DIN, yes . . . 6-pin DIN, like the one used on Frankfurt, is not standard, as far as I know, at least not here. That's why I asked for pin-outs.

No luck on the lifters yet, Rodney . . . been looking though.

Sorry the GT/J came from 71 onwards, so it must be something else.

I just got a Frankfurt off German ebay...Does anyone have or know the style of speaker connector used on this radio...it looks like a connector with two round pins about 3mm diameter and 13mm spacing.

    Thanks
