Opel Gt 1:18

Anyone know where I can get a good quality Opel GT at a good price? Preferrably in the States...

Ebay has a guy that sells a crapload of them from Singapore....but there's no way in hell that I'm paying $85+$35 shipping...I wouldn't pay that for an AUTOART quality 1:18.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The minichamps website lists the Gold colored GT's as still available.
The other colors (red, blue, silver, yellow) apparently have sold out.
I notice the Gold ones selling for about 50 euros on German E-bay but with shipping to the USA you can just about double the cost. I got a silver and a yellow (GT/J) shipped from the UK a year and a half ago at about the same cost as they're selling now. They don't come cheap but it is really the best quality model available.
Think of it this way, for a little more money you could buy a "full scale" basket case GT, or you can have a pristine 1:18 version that requires no more maintenance than a light dusting now and then!

That`s what I told myself too. For several months. I wanted a red one from Minichamps, but it`s been impossible to get. The toy shop here had a blue one for a long time. The price was approx USD 110. Nobody sells them cheap, so I just bought one from that guy in Singapore anyway. He has a wide selection of model cars.

I bought the Minichamps 1:18 Opel GT in Fireglow from the allcarmodels.com web site. It arrived today and I was amazed by the quality having never purchased one of these models before. The headlights flip, wheels and steering wheel turn, doors and hood open, and everything on the underside looks correct including suspension and exhaust. The model was shipped from Greece. It was $110 including shipping and currency conversion from Euros to Dollars. It's an amazing reproduction IMHO.

There is no doubt that the current 1:18 by minichamps is one of the best models out there, and I would suggest that if you guys can pick one up for less than $120 (including postage)....you should be delighted.

I know the current US exchange rate is shocking but the fact is that even though this model is less than 10yrs old there is a huge demand for some of the colours and costs are soaring!

Over in europe there aren't too many appearing and selling for under $160 pklus shipping, of course you can get lucky......but it takes an eagle eye.

Well, the Disneyland Autotopia amusement park ride once had a 1:4 scale Opel Aero GT/Corvette. And you can even buy-it-now off eBay!

I've been into modeling since I was "knee-high to a grasshopper" and have built/owned just about every scale from 1:87 to 1:12and most anything from space ships, to aircraft, to armor, to trucks, to cars, mostly cars, and yes it is hard to see spending $120 on a metal model, but, you have to consider the "subject" and the detail that goes into these. As for subject, most model and diecast companies tend to stick with what's popular. But, to do what they would consider not popular, being Opel and especially here in the US, it's a great thing to do an Opel. Then you get into the details of the model and the 1:18 scale MINICHAMPS GT is almost "museum quality", but almost, I mean that it is a mass produced item, where museum ones are mostly handmade one of a kind. If you could see one of these models up close, you'll see it's well worth the money. I have two of the 1:18, the standard production GT, and the GT/J and I treasure them both. But, just to let everyone know how "sick" I am, I have over 200, closer to 300 plastic kits I have never even opened, and boxes of built kits I don't have the space to display them. and I have several display cases full of diecast models that I have collected.

I've done lots of models forever as well. I did an AMT GT last winter since I was so sick with Opelitis while looking to buy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Minichamp isn't worth the money, just that when I consider what else I could do with $100, I can't quite get there! I did show my dad one last time he visited with the hope I'd see one in my Christmas stocking!

What's worse than the diecast, it's the resin kits you get to combine with a standard model kit to make a very special model of the actual 1:1 scale model. They never made a regular 1:24/1:25 scale Chevrolet/GMC Suburban, but, there's a resin company that has made it and combined with the regular Chevy P/U kit, you can make a nice mid-80's Suburban, which I would like to have, but, that resin kit, with just the few pieces that are required to make the complete kit, is hard to get by the $60 or more now to make one. I have a rare Dodge "Suburban" kit, but, I still want the Chevy version. And we say they Opels are a madenss....LOL I have a whole wall full of Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning, Micromachines, etc, of cars I have collected over the years, none have been opened and my 8 year old son doesn't understand why I don't open them and play with them LOL

Those are close but still to vette like. I believe its the 1990 Eurotreffen video that shows a kid in a very opel (bump on hood for carb) go kart. and I believe he is poking up out of the sunroof in it...

I would concur the Minichamps Ope is one of the finest models in 1:18th I own.
Currently I have a silver, red, blue and yellow. Still need to get the orange.

But I'll freely admit my Opel model collection is over 200 cars at this time, plus dozens and dozens of other muscle car and European models I have.

As Barry Mequiar says, "I'm Car Crazy".

Hey you guys. I found 2 orange GTs in europe. I wasnt sure if I could even get one so I ordered both. Well, after 2 months, I got both. So Im keeping one and selling the other. The price I paid was $140.00. If someone wants it let me know. I will take offers.
