I don't think mine was changed, but, on my 69 GT the heater valve is in the engine compartment between the carb and the passenger fender. You can see where the two heater hoses go into the heater core, just follow them back.
can anyone tell me where the heater control valve is located in the early 69 gt? my FSM (from 70) says it was moved to the engine compartment for 70 so... can I get to mine without takin out the dash? also if anyone has a 69 FSM they don't need let me know .

nope not there and no cableat first I thought it had been removed then I found several items mentioning moving it to the engine for easier service also I cant find any evidence of the control cable
Kent, I've got a 69 and the heater valve is in the engine compartment as Gene described. The PO might have removed it if it had been broken. The heater controls are the same as in my others. Again the PO might have cut the cable at the controls. I did my Brown one that way. My "Red" one was same way, but as the dash was out and car gutted for restoring, I took a choke cable and cut it the same lenght as the old one (which was frozen up too), and reran it like the original. I haven't had a chance to try it (it's not on the car), but appears to work on the bench. Hth, Jarrell

IIRC, there was a dealer recall of '69 GT's to replace the inside heater valve with one located in the engine compartment. Opel found that the inside heater valve was prone to leaking, and the results were causing significant warranty repairs (and costs) to the interior. So perhaps Gene's and Jarrell's GT's had been modified by the dealer rather than a PO, and yours simply was still stock.
I have attached a photo from the '69 FSM. The heater valve is shown, albeit barely, at the end of the lower pipe to the heater core.

My heater valve on my '69 is in the engine compartment too. Do your heater hoses go to where they are supposed to go or are they linked together. Maybe the PO bypassed the core on purpose (leaking?).

Buy it.Build it.
Drive it.
The rest is easy.
OK thanks for the pic that helps ! and yes the hoses do go were there supposed to I have the water choke and all is as it should be.. except no valve and no heatBut at least no leaks
For what it's worth my 69 had the valve still in the inside. Until I removed the heater core I never could see it. Mine was just the opposite, heat all the time. I later found the cable was broken and no way to get to it to fix it without taking everything apart.
