'69 GT instrument panel

Does anyone know what holds the pegs on the '69 GT instrument panel to the dash? I suspect that there are some type of clips that go here. I have a '69 and it has a '70's dashboard. There is nothing in the mounting holes to hold the peg's. Does anyone have any of these clips?

ah? the dashmat had a series of square tabs inside where the panel attaches. you take a peice of thin steel, fold it over itself, use an awl pick to poke a hole in it, and then slip it over the sqare tab, put panel in, screw to the little tab you made.

I think you are talking about making your own Tinnerman clips. They are used all the time in cars, cause you can just clip them wherever you need a screw hole, and the position is pretty much self locating. The common one is in the upper left of the pictures labled Product Catalog Selector.

The '69 panel have 3 pegs not screws at the top, and 2 screws in the middle to hold it in. I have the clips for the screws but, there must be a different clip holder for those 3 pegs at the top.

Does anyone have the sockets that the '69 dash panel peg's fit into the dashboard?

3 pegs?... i've worked on about 4 dashes now. heh. take a picture? if you can, that'd help immensely.

The instrument panels with mounting pegs on the back are the early model GT's. The panels do not have the round (high beam & turn signal) indicators and are not removable. Where the later model panels use screws through the panel the '69 ones don't have a hole just the "peg" mounted on the back but that attach in the same places in the dash they just have different clips back there to fasten to.

While I am not willing to take mine apart to confirm, I am pretty sure that all 3 of my GT's have had the round indicaters and used the little snap in pegs.

All 3 of my GT's have coincidentally been 1970 models.

bo, i may have what you need. it's a metal clip that goes into the square openings in the dash. the clip extends backwards and forms a "vee" to hold the pegs from the panel, right? i think i have 3 or 4 of them in a baggie somewhere in the "box o' stuff" i bought. let me know if that's right and, if so, how many you need.

Here is a picture of the pegs. There is one more on the far left of the panel not seen here. The pegs fit into the same hole were the screw clips go.

But, but< I can't be wrong. Well maybe this one time.

You don't have to take the panel off to cofirm the pegs. If you only see the two screw heads on the visible side of the panel and no screw heads or holes then you're correct.

I'll have to go look at the '70 model that I have. If I'm correct then I'll still wonder if the panel has been switched out.

You are correct Grasshopper! The '69's only have 2 screw holes and they are on each side of the radio.
