Yes, the housings and reflectors are different on the chrome lights.

Are your lights the Bosch 225's? If so my friend has some, I could make a template from them and fabricate a test-cover for you to try. I make the hammer-forms from hardwood, so it's not difficult or expensive to make.

    Driving Lights

Yes Bob, melt down is a mess with vinyl covers. That's why I have a quik-connect in the wiring harness to the lights. When I want to uncover the lights I plug it togather and when I put the covers back on I unplug the connector. It has worked for 5 years on my Manta and I haven't set anything on fire yet.

That's correct Bob. They are the Bosch Rally 225's. Do you really need another project these days?

I have cut the fronts out of the CIBIE covers and mounted plexiglass in them that way I can turn them on while they're still protected. There's also a company in Australia, called "Opposite Lock" I think, they make clear covers for the CIBIES and most others.

Daune- I just aquired a set of Super Oscars, fog lights, but, I think they may be too big to mount under the front bumper of the Sportwagon. I'd really like a set of Oscars in fog.

    1969 Kadett LS

You know, I have always been amazed at the lack of comments from people at Carlisle or other meets pertaining to the lights on the front of the car. I always kind of wondered what people thought about them. I personally like them as they give the car a little European rally flavor. They just unbolt easily enough to remove them. I didn't drill any holes in the car to mount them but instead used the factory rallye lamp mounts that just clamp on. So what are your opinions?

    Duane
Original rules!!!! My '69 LS also has them . . . all of them. Of course, car was a true "old lady's", always-garaged summer car, used for only about one month out of the year until I bought it in Seattle. She kept everything for that car and gave it all to me . . . a whole book full. Probably the best documented Kadett in the world . . . up to the time I bought it, anyway.

    Gene,
I had a nice set of Cibie 175 fogs that would have worked great for you. Unfortunately, I sold them on ebay about 5 months ago.

I have often thought about getting the clear bubble protectors for the headlamps. I'll check into Opposite Lock. Thanks for the tip!

    Otto,
Your Kadett has a multiple piece finishing panel? My wagon has one big piece that goes all the way accross the car under the dash. It is black plastic with sound deadening material attached to the backside of it. Most people threw them out as they made it a PITA having to R&R it to work on anything under or behind the dash.

    Duane;

I take it the Kadett we saved doesn't have this panel? It is tucked away in a barn right now awaiting its next owner. Remember, this car is free!(shameless plug and off topic )

Does the generator bog down when you turn these on ??

My Kadett is a 69 wagon 1.1SR w/AT. It was all original w/16k on it when I picked it up in San Diego 10/04.
I am in the process of installing an Irmscher SSD intake w/ DCOE40 .
Should make it a Silver Bullet.

Duane, the 70 sport sedan that I sold to Gerry Newburg has the under dash pannel still.

    more Kadett wagons

I have 3 Kadett wagons.69,69parts and 72. Two still have the panels. They are not very easy to remove without damage. Very awkward because of it's size and shape. And yes, Kevins car has it still.

    Kadett wagon

I myself have a 1970 kadett wagon with 14k original miles(garaged since 1976) on it...interior is flawless besides the headline (usual tiny splits with age) I just put a new motor in it with weber. needs MC and a vaccum modulator to make the trans shift. Other than that it is a perfect example of an genuine opel kadett wagon. It is white with red interior. ABSOULTLY NO RUST ANYWHERE! Even has the vintage smell. Clock works perfectly along with am radio. With that being said...I dont really need the wagon as I may be getting out of opels for a while. Being honest I could use the money too. Anyone intrested?

    Jeff,
No, the coupe was missing it when I got it.

    Kevin & Gerry,
I guess there are more of those panels still in cars than I thought.

    Beta Carotene,
Pics, price and details please. Thank you.

Yes, three pieces: two black plastic (right-center and left) with sound deadener and one grey plastic at the top of the pedals extending from transmission hump to windshield washer pump (Rallye style, same as GT with momentary wiper switch).

So, I'm assuming you WILL remove the panel if one's in the parts car, right? . . . I mean before it goes to junk yard!

    Kadett 1.1SR DCOE40 SSD A/T

    . . .
That'll certainly make it more unique, but the 1.1 A/T already put it in that category. Post pictures when you're done . . . just the sort of eye candy that's always welcome!

Thinking about fabricating a cold air intake for it? A few horses added to the 67HP already there have much more impact than on a higher HP engine. Just do it . . . almost free!

Modifying the original linkage to work with the SSD or starting linkage fabrication from scratch? Just curious as I'm going through a bit of linkage fabrication on my Kadett myself . . . twin downdraft DFOs with an original Rekord Sprint air cleaner . . . if I can get it.

Of course, then there's still the vintage ARA A/C evap and interior ductwork to install and the vintage Blaupunkt 4-band mono radio to install . . . all 'period correct'.

I will have to retain part of the original linkage so that the AT passing gear still works.
    Will post pix when installed.

    Otto,
I also have the grey piece above the pedal box but, mine is a grain textured cardboard type of material. My black plastic piece is all one unit. One thing I have been seeking for a long time is the rubber bullet shaped end plugs that cap the rear of the roof rack tubes. Would anyone have one of these?

    Kadette

1100 Kadette can be made into a really fun vehicle to drive. You just have to remember it is an antiquated design and with 3 main bearing and pushrods you can't spin them but so fast. I have seen an SR (67HP) show 82HP with just a little modifacation, that like making 150HP in a 1900. Re-curve the distributor, re-grind the cam and open up the exhaust. Tweeking the carbs and a little head work will work wonders for that motor. I had a 65 Kadette with a 1200 (european) parking lot racer that made many a MG midget and Spitfire wondering what got into that thing.
