    Know the Problem!

My Opel Senator has to be started with a screwdriver across the contacts when it gets hot.
Fun explaining things at 3am when starting it in front of my workshop while dressed in an old leather jacket and a black, woolly watch cap!
The second and third times I got braced just replied to their "What do you think you are doing?" with "Going about my lawful business!"
There must have been a note on their computer about the previous times as once they checked my ID I was allowed to continue going about my lawful business.
The fact that the ID that I presented was my licence to posses machine guns may have had some influence on the outcome!

yeah, it wasnt helped at all by my impatience to get outta the crappy neighborhood impairing my ability to be polite. "so, you have a key for the car but it doesnt work?"

"yes, someone screwed up the wiring by installing a starter button in it. No, that doesnt work either."

"why dont you tow it then" "because i dont have the money to pay a towtruck driver, and I'm not letting it sit here unattended, I kinda want all the body panels and such."

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
was a bad idea for the record. I miss the days of being young and stupid.

    Hot wiring cars

Jim, you mean you have to have a license to possess a machine gun, I see those folks in the Middle east on TV and they have one in each hand and a RPG on a sling over their shoulder Yes, police personal are a courious lot, they see someone under a hood or under a dash in the wee hours of the morning and they want to know what they are doing, but it is the wrong time when THE MAN has you by the short hairs to be giving him a ration because he has got all night to play the game and he is going to win

    I WAS polite!

I did thank them for being so concencious. I am pretty well known and my file shows that I sued their National Boss -the Commisioner of Police - some years ago and won handsome damages!
At least out Police do not pack guns - not needed except on very rare occassions - and feel they can approach anyone ... even at 3am.
