I saw that last night & emailed the guy. He said he listed it for another guy. He told me where it is located & said its sitting outside along the side of the road.

I hope to get a chance to see it this weekend. It's about 20 minutes from my girlfriends house.

From pics, looks like a really good one, Tom . . . worth getting IMO. It's an LS too!

    CIH engine

I think it's got a 1.6 or 1.9 engine in it, looking at the size of it

    US CIH engines . . . '68: 1.5/1.9, '69-'75: 1.9 only

For US Opel CIH engines, can only be 1.9 in 1970 . . . the 1.5 was only other CIH engine ever offered here and then only for the first year, 1968.

    Not what it appears

I went to look at the Kadett. The eBay photos are quite deceiving & the description isn't very truthful. The body work (putty) is very evident as soon as you see the car up close. I took many better photos to show the condition of the car in case someone wants to bid on it. The white paint was a "quickie" with some obvious runs & overspray.

The lower rear section on the driver fender is all putty. Also at the top of the fender where it meets the winshield pillar is cracking through. Both front tips of the fenders, especially when you open the hood, the bodywork can be seen. The rear quarter wheelwells & valance area have also been worked on. I pulled the weatherstripping away from the trunk lip & the rust has caused holes that go straight through into the trunk.

The interior is in really good shape. Nice seats, crack free dash, a few hairline cracks in the stearing wheel & factory 'radio delete' plate. The car started right up & idled nicely with the original solex carb still there. The auto tranny shifted smoothly into drive & reverse. I couldn't take it for a drive because the master cylinder is bad & it doesn't have brakes. That's why it wouldn't pass inspection.

The underneath the car & jack points are real solid. The front suspension looks pretty worn out & the one upper A-arm looks bent.

If you fixed the brakes & put a few hundred dollars into it, you could have a decent daily driver. I'm sure the bodywork is going to keep cracking & the rust will be showing through soon.

Finally, some of the Vin # 929311797, Engine #, engine bay & rear side glass. On the side glass, the glass must have come detached from the 2 hinge pieces. When I opened the windows, they would have fallen out if the opening lever wasn't still bolted to it.

The owner of the car was a very nice older gentleman who didn't know much about cars. Someone else listed & took the pictures for him. The spinner hubcaps, red painted emblems & trim pieces & extra marker lights on the tail panel, were all added by the owner before him.

The license plate is the new "new" style they are issuing when someone buys a car. Why is he selling? Just wondering.

Definitely showing symptoms of a Kadett that's spent too many years in a northern climate. I'd wager those rocker panels have a lot of body cheese on them too.

As for gas mileage, my 1970 automatic Kadett could only manage about 24-25 mpg in very good tune. The car was a lot of fun though....

My '69 Solex 1.9 A/T averaged 24.6 mpg last year on my Carlisle trip, TX - Carlisle - Richmond - TX . . . that was at ~85mph (~3900 RPM) average highway speeds though, not too shabby for the Kadett's 'brick' shape IMO!

    eh?

I would not recommend purchasing this car. I could be wrong, but typically things like expanding foam in the front fenders are indicitave of hasty repairs that do not hold up well. There are better cars for sale right now, or at least cars in condition where to fix the rust issues you would be doing less re-work and discovery.

Well bought, in my opinion - someone got a nice car for a good price. Had around 3,600 views of the listing

Anyone know if the new owner is a member here? Didn't recognize the winning bidder, rhrace2000. Just curious.
