OpelGT.com Photo Car Show
I envision a friendly little contest with lots of categories that we vote on in a series of run-offs that would whittle things down to the "top ten" in each category and then a final. No prizes other than bragging rights. Maybe the administrators could set up a single place where we could post our pics and voters could scan them all reasonably simply and select their favorites in each category. We'll have to discuss this a bit to decide if we'll allow pics of cars that don't exist anymore or that are of a car that is not the property of the person who posted the pic. Here's some category suggestions. There would be a seperate category of each of these for each model(GT, Manta, etc.): Best stock oem car Best lightly modified Best very modified Best paint job Best engine Best engine compartment Best interior Best dashboard Best cool idea And, for fun, we could have some categories like: Best pic of a hot chic next to an Opel Most ridiculous modification Most decrepid car Most rusty car Cutest Opel car pic Best vintage Opel pic I figure that lot's of us like looking at and collecting all the various pics that members post. It would be great if all of the best were gathered together in one place to view. Many of us have pics of cars that don't exist anymore and this would be our chance show off a little of our former glory. I think that to minimize any ownership disputes or hard feelings if someone else posts a pic of YOUR car, we make the contest purely about the pictures and that entering any pic of any car of anyone's from any time is absolutely okay and even encouraged. Thought's and discussion please. Gordon

I've seen calendar contests on other car forums but have never seen this done before. Sounds fun to me!

This sounds a bit like our "Opel of the Month" contest we had for several years. It was fun.

I think I might win both of those in one fell swoop, especially if it has to be running/driving/licensed!
I was kind of thinking a similar thing when I was reading thru the thread about Fall Opeling. My thought was doing some 'themed' temporary galleries. Like a 'Fall' driving folder/thread that would showcase Opels in the nice fall settings. Leave it open until say just after Thanksgiving then lock it. It would be preferably new or recent pics to avoid an avalanche reposting. Maybe have a poll attached to decide best pic.

The MG forum had something similar and the winner of the category receives a certificate from the site. It was discontinued however because several members kept winning all of the time. Perhaps there could be a cycle which if you won one month, you had to skip the next month or something like that.

Non-competitive photo posting
My thoughts are that this "car show" should be as non-competitive as possible. Of course, choosing the title "car show" does imply otherwise. My true intent is simply to gather the BEST photos and examples of our cars in one easy to find and view place and also to have a little fun at it. Make it so that it's the picture that wins, not the person who posted it. No prizes. That way anybody could post anything from anyone. If someone submits a pic of YOUR car, great, you should be flattered. I suggest we make it as free and simple as possible for this first attempt and leave the owners of the cars pictured out of it entirely.
Maybe what I'm suggesting is just a Photo Contest. Every member could submit just one or two photos in each category. Poll voting would choose the top ten, then we vote again for the best of those. We then archive ALL the entries in each category and give them titles such as "Best Modified Manta of 2009". Now we have a single place to go to look at, and download for our screen savers, the best pics and examples of our wonderful little Opels.

Photo Contest
How can we nominate a member for a photo of his/hers?

Just tryin' to keep it friendly
I just think it would be best to keep people out of it. What if I post a winning pic of a car I never owned and the true owner is unknown? Do I deserve the glory of the win?
But if person to person competition is the only way to go to generate interest, then so be it. I've always felt that one of the great things about Opel owners is their lack of ego. Hey, I feel as knarly as the next guy when I'm behind the wheel of my GT, but deep down I realize that what I'm driving is generally regarded by most motorheads as a cute little girly car. The vast majority of Opel owners who enter car shows are somewhat or extremely motivated by ego and "beating the other guys". But I would venture a guess that most of the members of this site are simply regular Joe's and Jane's who love their quirky, unusual, little sports cars.

Here's a photo that I like...
I saw this picture on Flickr and contacted the photographer, who turns out to be opelgt.com member, Blauwmarc. I like this picture a lot because I think the creative element in the photo is very original and effective. The lighting, background and image quality nicely compliment this fine looking GT.
