There are no pop up ads associated with opelgt.com. Pop ups are a major annoyance to me and I refuse to add any.
Do you get them when going to other sites? Are there other programs open in your browser? What browser are you using? Anyone else having this problem? |

I use the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" provided by my company.
The only thing I usually have open is opelgt.com

Use the combination of two tools...
Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com Spybot - http://security.kolla.de and I really recommend Mozilla ( www.mozilla.org ) along with a plugin for it called AdBlock and say goodbye to any popups, banners and even those pesky flash ads on any web page! And the new Mozilla has bayesian spam filtering in their email client. Mozilla even has a decent light version called FireBird at a measly 6mb that IS Mozilla without EMail

My personal fave is the Google Toolbar (available from Google - Services & Tools - scroll down to Google Tools - Google Toolbar -- download and execute)
It pops a search field into the browser header (easily accessed by Alt+D, Tab) and includes a very effective pop-up blocker. I have also had good luck with Spybot and Ad-aware for their respective services. Gator will be the end of your computer (or at least make it frustratingly slow, and plenty of pop-ups) if it winds up getting installed on your system. It can also be installed as many other program names, including GAIM and some weather and time monitoring services.

I would think that your companies firewall should take care of some of that. If you are running Windows XP, make sure you have your own firewall is up for your internet connection.
From the the Start menu->Connect To->Show All Connection then right click your network connection that you use to get on the internet and choose Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and insure that Internet Connection Firewall is checked. Then click OK.

I don't think a firewall will help you at all, pop ups come mainly from two places, on is from the website you are on itself, and the other is the Spyware variety(the kind that returns a "search" for things similar to what I am looking at, though I never asked for it)
The spyware ones are usually carried with other programs that you install. I use The Google tool bar to block the website pop ups and I must say it works flawlessly. I recommend that EVERYONE download the google bar! I use the Ad-Aware program to rid my computers of such spyware moguls as "gator"

I didn't have to download any extra software. Yes, I still get popups from web pages that have them, but I don't get attact by people trying to sell me popup protection when I have a firewall in place.
You can go that route if you like. I prefer not to junk up my system downloading stuff. That's usually how the problems tend to start.

Thanks all for the responses. Since this is a corporate computer, I will have our "help" desk clean out all of the junk. I will use the suggestions here to protect my home computer. Thanks again.
