Merlindavis;
I may be wrong, but, I was at Road Atlanta Friday with friends and I saw what looked to be full-on NASCAR stock cars setting up to race, I asked a friend about it, thinking it was teams there to test out new cars, but, I was told that those were Group 8 cars. Gene

haha... although i appreciate the timely reply, that wasn't quite what i was looking for...
if you look under the technical forum heading on this site, you'll see we have groups 1-7, and group 9... with the group number dividing a section of technical "expertise," if you will... i'm assuming that group 9 was simply misslabeled, and that it's supposed to be group 8

What? Group 8 missing? That is "Fuel and Exhaust System"

Gary followed the 1973/74 FSM groupings, where Group 8 is "Hoods, Fenders and Grille". Which didn't deserve its own Group, so it got merged with Group 2 "Body and Interior". Thanks for noticing!
