This site is great but......

I think this web site is great. i have had my opel for 4 years. I have finally started fixing her up. This site can be a lot of help, but some people
get mad if you don't try search first. Some times it is hard to find what you are looking for, but don't give up it is worth it in the end!!!! IT is a great site so get to looking it is worth it,

tim by the time you are up to 2-300 posts you will look and think why is that newbie asking that we answered that yesterday ,then you will think s/he is new so you will go look for it and find it was months ago and it was under a heading that you would not think of as the thread had gone off subject and then you post a note asking them to look for things under funny names then you get this job so dont ask

i know its a pain for new members but there are only so many times you can tell people that its fully covered in a nice manner before the cry "DO A SEARCH" comes out , the last moderator keith almost had it as his tag line
if you look in humour there is a post of mine from months back
called where all new members should be sent to

its @
http://www.starterupsteve.com/swf/posting.html
it goes a long way in jest to show why we say do a search

We don't get mad, Tim, we just go into "Ignore" mode. A few times new members have wondered (out loud) WHY their wondrous, well-thought-out, fascinating and timely question is being ignored by all the nasty old members. More times than not, it was just asked the week before.

You see, the old folks here (who actually do almost ALL the question answering) have read every last damn post from the beginning of this Forum's existence three years ago (but a couple of software versions as well). Or, they have read all the really neat threads as they have satisfied their thirst for Opel trivia. And since Opel owners are, by natural selection, so much smarter than the general public who DON'T own classic Opels, they REMEMBER that the aforementioned question was not only answered, but in several different languages, with several byzantine twists. And are bored by it being asked again.

But the solution is to just do a perfunctory search, mention that you have searched, and a few of the possible solutions, and let the answer-crazy membership tear in to try to put their personal spin on the answer.

At least that's how I see it.
