That is a connection for the electric choke. It has a bimetal element that heats up and opens the choke when power is applied. With it disconnected the choke won't open.

Dash Color Different?
Looking at pictures of GT, I noticed dash, gauge panel, console, etc. are all Buckskin (off-white). Was that available on European GTs'?
You should be able to find replacement, electric choke plate for Solex. |

I once broke mine as well. Go to an electronics parts store, and get male spade terminal for cables, without insulation. Carefully open the part that you normally crimp around the cable, make it flat, and solder it directly on the metal rivets that held the original connection spade terminal. These rivets are the current paths to the inside of the housing.
Just be careful to not make any connection to the metal housing, because the housing is also the ground path for the heating element, and doing a connection will create a short circuit! ![]() 5 minutes job!

Interior choices . . .
No, probably just painted. The plastic gauge insert was always black regardless of interior colors. BTW, Buckskin is not "off-white", it is a light tan in color . . . that's what the interior of my '73 GT is (my first Opel and owned since 1976), and a relatively rare interior color from what I've come to know since.
