Plea for help.

Any German speaking members willing to translate this document? I know it is a bit of work but I really could use all the info I can get as I try to figure this carb out. I have this whole manual but putting it through an OCR program and an online translator leaves the text a bit cryptic.

Looks like idle circuits, then moving into the transfer slots. Next step is the boosters.

This is a chapter on what happens to the carburator if it runs dry. The chapter covers how emulsion develops, performance lacks due to the cause and what to do to resolve the issue.

Very nice explanation however there are a few words I don't remember the meaning. I believe Heimue could resolve this since I believe he "sprechen Sie deutsch."

I can give it a try, how soon do you need it? I can try to have something tomorrow, but the technical words may not be 100%, it should be usable though. BTW what carburettor is it or what engine was it on?

Harold.

That would be great! This is the only complete manual I've found for a Solex 40DDH that actually is for the German version. I am using this on my 2.4 GT and need to get a better understanding of the idle circuit. No rush.

I'll start on it tomorrow, I don't have all my translating resources handy right now. Besides, I need to print a larger version to help my aging eyes .

Corey,

don't worry about it. You'll have it tomorrow. I'd do it right now, but its 11pm and I just got home.

Here U go.

Each of the two mixing chambers have their own idle circuit, which can be a dependent or independent idle. In the first case is the fuel withdrawn from behind the main jet and dependent on it. In the second case, the fuel is drawn directly through drilled holes in the float chamber.

Here is the independent idle system illustrated as it is favored for sport engine applications. The fuel supporting idle flows from the float chamber in two outward leading drillings of the jet stock. At idle is the fuel priming, metered by the idle jet and through the air of the idle air hole emulsified. This emulsion reaches the exit drillings near the throttle valve (flap). The discharge of the front drilling may be regulated by the idle mixture screw.

The drilling on and behind the closed throttle body are called bypass - or interim drillings. They come into action after the throttle valve opens and provide a better crossover from idle jet system to main jet system. With the air streaming in through the throttle valve gap is the emulsion for the idle mixture processed.

Screwing the idle mixture [air] regulating screw in is less fuel rich (lean) and by screwing out an increased richness (rich) is accomplished. The idle air screw sets the idle speed of the engine.

I've gone over the translation and can only add that BMWonly has done a great job! You've increased my productivity at work, by getting the job done first. Thanks.

Could/should the title of this thread be changed or at least the translated instructions be posted where they will be easier to find in the future for someone seeking info on these carbs?

Thanks everyone. In the interest of what Harold said, I'll put the booklet together and post it all, not for translation, but just in the unlikely event that someone else uses this carb. There is one other member running it, so maybe it will be helpful.

This website has helped me so much in getting great information while restoring my GT. Every question I had, the answer was already posted, especially engine related. Time to give back every once in a while.
