    tuning a radio

I have an old radio here (don't know if it is an original). Problem is it won't tune. The dial rolls easy but the station stays the same. I pulled out the radio after MUCH trouble and popped it open. Looks like a gear is moving but the gear next to it with sandpaper isn't moving. When I push this gear with my fingers the radio tunes. Anyone run into this or have any suggestions? I probably can just shove a shim between the two wheels so that one turns the other but I want to fix the problem permanently.

Why not glue another piece of sandpaper to the other gear? That way it will be shimmed and have a friction drive between both gears. Whatcha think?

I figured it out. It works like a clutch so that when its engaged the radio can be tuned, but when you push one of the presets it disengages and goes to that station. Problem is when I push a preset button it won't unlock. I got the clutch back together put it back in the car and then stupid me pushed a preset button and now its broken again. I just wanted the radio for the trip from San Fransico to LA but I've already made it just by using one earbud of my ipod.
