Check out your local auto parts store, they probably have a universal electric antenna that will bolt right in place of the original antenna. BTW, the original antenna will also pick up FM stations too.

I have a electrical one that comes out when the radio is on, the normal installation spot is in the right side front fender near the window, but because I don't like that spot [ because of dirt and water on the antenna casing], I mounted it on the left back fender, this way the motor housing and electrical connections can't get dirty and it is very accessible

Thanks Mr 209. I just Assumed that the antenna was only am since the radio was only am.Might just hook that up for now then & get the electric one later. Also I'm installing the am,fm cd deck on the angle down the right side where the tranny is , which would be near the left leg of the passenger. My steareo people said the cd will work fine on the angle. It will be mounted simply with a under dash mounting bracket. Metal frame but covered in the same plastic as the center console is made of. Has anyone done this before??Thanks again guys & girls

If you buy one on-line, the product description should tell you how high the antenna goes up. If you get one from a local store, the box should tell you the same, but, for good FM reception, most audio mags/shops say 32" is ideal

I should have added in my last post that I too have the same antenna as wrench459 has in the inside of the hatch on my Sportwagon. He didn't mention that this is an amplified antenna, which really pulls in the signal. Some of the "pop up" or power antennas have amps in them. If you live in a remote area, this is an excellent option to lookinto.

I've got an auto antenae from a wrecker for about $20. I think it was from a 240. It fit nicely into the rear quarter cavity and has worked flawlessly.

One thing to be aware of, the radio is what determines whether the antenna goes down or stays up when playing other than the radio, ie., a CD or tape. Just something to think about.

My GT had the motor antenna installed on the drivers rear panel. Looks much better IMHO, more aerodynamic.

Good point. I'll check with the people putting it in . Might have to put the antenna on a switch.I'll probably stick with the same location . Can't see putting a hole in it. About the length . I was talking about how much room inside the front fender the antenna unit can go in without hitting something. Thanks for the input everyone.

You should have ample room for an electric antenna in the wheel well. I used the same hole for the antenna cable for the electric wires and a piece of plumber's tape to anchor the bottom, and it worked great for years. HTH.
