If you are using anything like a modern stereo, you won't like the sound that comes from an original type speaker.
You can match up speakers (3" x 5"?) to the stock mounts. There are two other pieces besides the deck. There is a speaker plate (with felt isolation strips) and the speaker cover (plastic, but there are some metal louvered covers, too). Check with Crutchfield for possible replacements. You'll need the dimensions for the actual hole and the studs. Look for a decent 3way. If you run only one speaker it will at least have a fuller range.
