Removing Rear Deck For Speakers

how does the lower rear deck get held in place, the one right behind the seats, and is that a very good place for speaker? I'd rather not put them there but 6x9's wont fit on that little board that sits perpindicular to the lower deck

There are screws in the carpet. They are located along the front and rear edge. The carpet is probably crushed and is covering them. A little dectective work and you will find them. Good Luck

I see the holes now, but is that a good place for speaker?

I've seen speakers there.

The only bad part about the speakers being there, that I see, is;
1. They could act as a catch all for anything that falls back there
2. the sound will be muffled if you carry anything back there.
3. they are aimed up at the roof and not where the sound will reflect well into the listening area.(but GT are small enough, this might not matter.

It would be a great place to put a sub-woofer in. Even with stuff covering, it would kick out some great bass. Might even help it. I talked with a sound guy that told me some of the theaters will put subwoofers in boxes, aimed inward, with styrafoam peanuts in it to kick out more bass.

You could try running your wires and hooking up the speakers temporarily to see how they sound. You could try them in a couple of spots and angles to see if you get the desired sound. You might even want to build a small support surface to angle them forward a bit.

I mounted a removable sound box in the spare tire carrier with enough wire that it can be removed and put on the rear spoiler for tunes outside. It has Subs, and tweeters in it for full sound.

6X9 speakers will fit in that small panel thats perpendicular to the lower panel that sits under the vinyll flap (i can never spell the "V" word). i have 2 6X9 speakers and 2 4" speakers back in that small panel. you are cutting it short for size in the height, but it does work, i'll send pics if you want, instead of cutting the origional, i made another one out of 7/16OSB board, and covered it with automotive carpet.

that would be great if the 6x9's would fit there but it looks like the tire tray is a 1/2 inch too low, (only 5.5inches of empty space) apicture would be great

I cant see how 6x9 speakers will fit there I made a cardboard trial piece...theres some of the frame and tire tray in the way, is it possible that there is supposed to be a spacer between tire tray and the support?

It looks like it might fit.

The speaker goes on this side of the cardboard/panel.

Run your mounting screws in from the backside and maybe countersink them. Then make sure the remainder sticking out of the nut is cut off to fit you grill cover.

It's not a matter of screws hitting anything, its the actual cage of the speaker wont fit between the frame and the tire tray. but I may notch out some of the tire tray to get it to fit. It just seems kind of odd that some people have gotten 6x9's to work there with out cutting any metal.

opel gt source as what you are tring to do. it as the speaker holes in them allready. i have a subwoofer in my gt and it sounds good. but, not good enough. make sure you dont buy a subwoofer taht requires a lot of air space
because i did. now i need to make a costum box. so that it has the right amount of air space. remember you want angals in your sub box. because the long the bass takes to get to your ear the more bass you have. in a car anyways
