subwoofer help

i have one 10" subwoofer and i want to get a nothere one . but i dont know were to put them. i was thinking of outting them in the back dash broad. but i dont now if the subwoofer enclosures would let my spare tire fit. i dont have a full spare i have a donut. does anyone have any suggestions. or some pictures that i could use to get an idea.

The best idea I've heard for subs is in the flat panel just behind the seats. Then you don't need the standard sub enclosure. If you were talking the package tray above the spare I think it would rattle like crazy.

2 10's shouldnt require that much room so you might safe just flushing them into the rear 'seat', above the spare tire might work, but how are you going to seal the box?. Or you can simple build a box and set it on the rear 'seat', you should be able to get into the spare tire area still, eventually I want to do this. If you build your own box, you can port it which can bring in some nice lows. Rattles are the enemy, and your going to run into a variety of them. Actually the dynamat will minimize most rattles as a function of decreased reverb, but there is no way around an afternoon with some wrenches and screwdrivers to tighten up the loose parts.

speaking of dynomat. Their are cheaper alternatives that work just as well if not better. I've used RAAMAT, IMO its one of the best. E-dead is also good...brown bread, b-quiet I've heard good things about. For my gt project im going to try a liquid deadener, e-dead v3.0 yah its smurf blue, but atleast you wont miss any spots

IMO, the easiest way to get subs in the GT is to simply buy a prefabbed box and sit it on the rear deck... however, most 10" subs require around 1 cubic foot in a sealed box... that 1 cubic foot is larger than it seems...

another fairly easy way, and i've been thinking about going this route myself, is to use a sub that was designed for free-air use... free air subs don't require a specific amount of air for themselves, thus no box is required... you could make yourself a baffle to cover the entire spare tire area, then simply mount the sub in the middle of it or whatnot... if you wanted to keep the tray back there, it would then only be a matter of mounting the sub either above the tray, or cutting out a portion of the tray to allow for clearance... put a piano style hinge on either the top or bottom, and you have yourself a clean looking setup while retaining access to the tray above the gas tank...

Instead of going pure free air, I feel that ap mat is a better route.

Either way I'm not a huge fan of either of these setups for subs. They sound okay, but dont give the low extension i like. Cool thing about freeair, and ap mat setups is that you can fit them almost anywhere!

On prefabbed boxes, some of them are okay, but most suck! I'd build your own box, its really not very hard. And you make it custom conform to the rear deck if you get ambitious

hay i also had trouble deciding where to put my 2 10 inch subs, the answer we came up with was to make a custom boc that sits in the spare tire area and just put a can of that tire in a bottle stuff, either that or you could use the luggage area right behind your seats for the subs. we tried that but it took to much of the cargo area. one idea my friend gave me was to take the luggage area out and make a custom box that pretty much makes a new shelf that is useable but has the 2 10 inch subs included in them.
