Unanswered: First ever custom Fabrication!!!

I did my first EVER custom fabrication today on my Opel Gt (73)!

I custom fabricated the new cd player I got into the dash and took out the old radio! The Hole for the new cd player was un believeably small so I, with my little skills I had tried doing this all on my own...lol! I would shouw you pictures but I am the dumb one and did not take any pictures. I will take some soon! But I must say, it looks PERFECT and I love it. I now have my first project I wanted done on my opel FINISHED! Now I have to install the sub's, 6X9's, and 6 1/2 inch speakers into the car!!!

I will have new pictures by the end of the week for all of you to look at!

This project took MUCH longer then I had planned, But hey isnt that how everything goes?? I spen 2 hours getting the dash out and RE-organizing the wiring on the instrument panel...which by the way some guy duct taped everything together. Lol. That gave me a good laugh when I saw! After that it took me an excrushiating 1 1/2 hour to cut the hole out of the instrument cover (which like I said looks AWSOME) Then! with all the STUPID wires in new places, I realized the panel would not go back on correctly and would lean weird on the dash, so I had to re-organize the panel AGAIN but in the end it finally fit. (That took 45 minutes or so) After that I finally got the radio in and finished and now it sounds great! So in all around 4 1/2 to 5 hours just for a radio! lol

Anyways you guys are sick of hearing me!

Thanks for reading
Spencer

Hey it looks fine to me...I see you had the same problem as me as to where it over laps on the bottom lip....me and my friend decided we would cut into the lip very slightly and to our suprise it fit in just enough to cover the small gap that that ussully leaves.

You ever want us to do a small job on yours and your down near northwest florida give me a PM and we would be more then happy to help out...I know we are new at this but we would love to get some more practice...free of charge

Thanks for the post!!!

Thanks for the offer- I did consider cutting the lip off but I plan on latter replacing the unit with a CD player and I wasn't sure if the CD faceplate would be smaller so I left it alone for now.

Yeah most cd players are universal to fit in the same size slot, unless you get one of those that (now a days) do flips for you and play movies on the face plate (Yes I know its sad...a CD player now playing stupid movies for you) Anyways if you get a type like mine it should fit in the hole you have already cut out but with very minor adjustments!

By the way if you need any cheap but REALLY well use of tools, go out and buy the SMALLEST drill bit you can find that will go into a battery powered drills and they work EXCELLENT on the corners! That was our main problem working on this!

Hope I helped, now I am off to bed!

Spencer

P.s I Like the Tape player...Maybe if you got it metalic silver or chrome colored around the edges and what not it would look awsome AND origional. I am mondernizing my entire cars interior so my origional radio HAD to go...
