    Problem with Gordo's Head..............liner

Gil tells me that his supplier doesn't stock headliners for my '75 Sportwagon.

Uh-oh. That's a big problem. That's one of the first jobs I'll have to do in conjunction with window rubber replacement, interior painting sealing, possibly the removal of the roof rack to facilitate an outside paint job, etc.

I get the sense from what he said that there might be other sources I could get a '75 Manta/Luxus/Ascona Sportswagon headliner from. Any suggestions? Norbert, are they available in Doychland?

Now, all I need is enough material to reach the tops of the windows all the way around and the rod pockets to be in the right place. He says that he DOES have Kadett headliners.

Couldn't I make one of those work? Maybe with a little Gordo modding?

I think he said that he DOES also have regular, non-Wagon, Manta/Luxus/Ascona headliners. I have no prior experience with Mantas, but I'm told that normal Mantas and the Wagon versions are virtually identical from the B or C pillars forward. I could get a normal Manta headliner and have it extended for the Wagon, assuming that most of the rod pockets are in the same place. Maybe.

Thoughts, ball busts, and useful information eagerly accepted.

I have been pretty happy with brush on White Rust-oleum.
You may want to visit your local Auto Upholstery Shop, as long as you have the old head liner they should be able to make a pattern.

If you carefully remove the old headliner, any competent upholstery shop should be able to reproduce it.

Gordon, when I owned C & R I got all my headliners from ACME Auto Headliners in CA. They told me they had patterns back into the 1930’s for most Opels.

Thanks Norbert! I knew you would find something.

I called or messaged the places that Gary and Bob suggested and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I'm sure their prices will be almost the same as the Doychland place, but I would rather get the German one, so unless they have a really cheap price I will go German. Gary, tell me what year/model/color/fabric you want.

    For my '72:
Headliner Opel Ascona A Estate Voyage in WHITE PERFORATED New production
    Article number AB8169261
    151.05 € *
    incl. VAT excl. shipping costs

Don't forget no VAT on exports so the cost is 20% less but shipping will probably bring it back to that cost.

I wouldn't think the shipping would be all that much, headliners can be folded up pretty small and don't weigh much.

I do have one concern about getting a typical German exact replica headliner: I'm not sure what I'm going to do at the rear of the headliner where the hinges are. Isn't there a cover over that area? If so, then I presume that the headliner doesn't go all the way back and under the rear hatch rubber.

Does the headliner material go all the way back? I don't have my Wagon handy to find out for myself.

If it doesn't, then I might want to go with a US headliner maker who may be able to make it extra long at the back.

Let's let this idea cook for a while.......

I don't like to buy from him, but if I have to I will. He does not wake up until after I go to bed, I would have to stay awake an extra 2 hours so that I can call him when he wakes up at 11pm EST.

Here's a wacky idea, paypal money to Norbert and have him do the deal as Norbert is in his time zone, that way you don't lose your beauty sleep (yeah right)
